Some advice needed please if possible, drove into work last night and got the impression the engine diddn't feel right, slight hesitation when put foot down, then when leaving off this morning noticed that when driving along seems ok , put foot down it picks up then seems to hesitate as though being held back then seems to go, rev counter constant, just sounds strange , was doing 60 put foot down, hesitated then up to 80 no probs. When ticking over no probs. Recently (less than 1000miles) changed all filters so will try again tonight when go in to work and see if it still doing it. Any suggestions would be appreciated please. Its a 2005 3.0 di Terrano 11 van, 128k, Sorry not sure what mark that is, T2 ?, haven't it long but has been excellent up till now. Was a mate of mines and been serviced at main stealers since new on the dot.
Cheers

sounds JUST like mine is at the mo, and i know ive got an air leack in the fuel line some place.

also could be fuel filter not quite done up enough.

deffo sounds like air in fuel system, try pumping the fuel filter til its nice and firm then have a drive round, then try pumping it again if it pumps again there is deffo air getting in somewhere, check around the rear wheel arch thats the usual place for them to go easy enough to replace and fix just a bit time consuming because of location

ive replaced all line with new, but ive still got air getting in.

will have to brave the rain and look

might just be the clips aren't tight enough, tighten them up and prime the fuel filter

im gong to change tthe jubile clips to fuel line clips, see if thats any better

how long is it since you changed the fuel line? mine took a bit to get back to normal after changing and had to fill up with just diesel the first time after that it all went back to normal

Lurch have you recently filled up with fuel? Could also be crap fuel or water that needs bleeding off?

I agree with above but also changing the fuel filter can let air in.
I bought a cheap one...:doh in the end I was so P****d off I bought a Nissan one. Several times the price but sorted it.
Some of the cheap ones don't seal at the top "O" ring, bit hit and miss.

Thanks chaps, filled up two days ago, and changed fuel filter two weeks approx ago, I got the filter from milners and did ask the question at the time as it didn't have the water drain outlet at the bottom and was told they are cheaper enough now that most people change them every time a service is due. Has been perfect up till last night so could be down to last lot of fuel, will see how it goes when i go into work for tonights shift. Will let you know when i get up tomorrow.

I also assume you are running normal diesel and not bio?

Yes Mate normal diesel, where i always fill up aswell.
Cheers.

Went to work last night didn't seem to bad, then drove home this morning and was ok until put it into 4th gear approx 45-55 mph and continue to excellerate it really hesitates and holds back for several seconds gradually increasing speed until i can get it into 5th then seems to pull away ok, I would have thought if a fuel problem would have this hesitation all way through driving wouldn't you? Going to check air lines from air filter to see if blocked or hole anywhere. There is a small green filter/valve in between a small air pipe from the air filter assembley will check that, but any more ideas would be appreciated please, seems driveable still but annoying. Thanks.

Post a pic before you fiddle, but this is the Patrol engine so not the same layout as the 2.7.

Still got a engine hesitation problem, have cleaned MAF and today bought a better quality fuel filter to change later today to try that. But i have a question does a 2005 3.0tdi terrano have a mini filter in the fuel line and if so where please.
cheers

Its a difficult question that only the Patrol owners might answer....the minifilter was common on earlier 2.7 diesels but not post facelift (1999) I think......again can't speak for the ex-Patrol 3.0 litre engine. Have you looked in the 3.0 section of the online manual?

my 2000 plate got 1 but its inside the bango bolt unlike the earlier 2.7td where it was seperate to the bolt, so some people might miss it or it has been yank out.

Thanks for your reply's, i took off the banjo fitting and found no filter and i know that it would of been there if present from new, so not fitted. Replaced my fuel filter (which was the filter from milners in the cheap kit £11.00) for one which cost me £12.00 (fuel filter only)from local supplier, not given it a good run as yet but does seem alot better, will let you know when used for a few days.

I certainly think the fuel filter is a critical component, from a quality issue due to their poor sealing ability on the filter housing.
They have to seal 100% or air gets in and causes these problems.
The reason why it's a problem on these trucks is that the fuel is "sucked" by the diesel pump on the engine and not pushed through the filter by a pump in the fuel tank.

Next time during servicing I would only ever do this, then follow on with the service 2 weeks later. Only one source or issue at a time.
