Im sure its something simple but it's doing my head in.
2004 Patrol 3.0 67k on the clock, i had the NATs taken off the ecu and all was well, then one morning i had no throttle unless i pushed it slowly so i changed the TPS and it was great until it hit 3k rpm then no throttle again.
So i checked my work and plug in bits and still no throttle, starts fine runs sweet.
Next i checked fuel and changed the filter, ran well till 2500 rpm then no throttle and died, started instantly and would throttle slowly then as rpm rises it would loose throttle but still ticks over.
Next i changed the MAF sensor, ran excellent for 1/2 a mile then no throttle again. i have a panasonic toughbook with consult 3+ and a v12 interface and now they wont talk to each other.
Im hoping one of you lovely people will have some ideas as what i can swear at next and get the car running properly, Thanks in advance.
Also no warning lights to tell me of a problem.

Welcome sir, sorry to hear you are having issues with your truck!!!

Rob and some of the other guys will be along soon who are a lot more familiar with the ZD30 lump than me, that said, I do have a spare and all the bits that go with it if you do need any spares as I've just broken a Terrano ZD30

I'm interested to see and hear some more about your ToughBook and Consult III setup, I haven't seen one in real life but looking to get one of my own as that kind of thing has just become by profession after joining the software and diagnostics team at Aston Martin.

Have you got the Keycard and reader and is that working? Taking it back to basics even further, are you able to interrogate your truck at all with any reader even a cheapy EOBD eBay jobber to see if you can read and clear and read DTC's stored in the ECU's

Lets see if we can get you sussed

Many thanks for your quick reply, i bought the Toughbook which is seriously tough, its a CF19 and i had it with windows 7 installed off a guy who specialised in them on ebay, it is in very good nick. also i bought a nissan consult 3 plus interface (V12)from
CarDiagTool.co.uk which was slow getting here, i had a NATs issue and couldnt get the security card but found a way around it via a link on a simple rewrite on the consult software, all was well and i could get the info on the car and the nats was unlocked but the fault reoccurred and this time i couldnt get the interface to connect to the consult programme so i sent the ECU to have the nats taken off via ecu decode. The interface came with software and leads although the consult shows the Vi it wont fully connect. Regarding using a different reader i have a cheap one that also cant find the protocol for nissan.

Hi there
Regarding your 2004 ZD30.
I have had similar issues with mine.
Going right back to stupid basics.
I don’t have the problem now.
Few questions
With Covid-19 has you’re truck been totally laid-up?
Battery/batteries charged?
Air filter in good order?
You’ve changed your fuel filter, do you use premium fuel? I do now!
Finally...
I cleaned my MAF, it was dirty and cleaning it I felt, made a difference for me.
Also, I noticed the spool/pulley next to the TPS in the footwell wasn’t working smoothly so I gave it a dose of spray lube.
Truck is currently running fine!

Just my thoughts
Best
Davey

Thanks for your reply,Truck was laid up for months before i got it due to the NATs locking out, i bought it and had it taken off the ECU, i put a new fuel filter on and checked the air filter which was clean as the truck had had a service before the nats issue, i haven't even used a tank of fuel yet but on changing the filter i noticed it was red diesel, it is the weird no throttle like the tps isnt talking to the throttle body, MAF is new, i was going to clean all the earth terminals and lube the throttle body, i wonder if it has a pump ecu and that could be the issue, i have tried to do a throttle reset but never get a flashing engine light.

When a member on here purchased a sick 3ltr (it had been running on veggy) trailered it to my place and gave it a going over but no joy, it would start, run but not rev well and misfire, ended up putting a test tank on the roof with forecourt fuel in it and it ran better but still not good, then put an electric pump on with a bypass and gauge so I could regulate the pressure, seem to remember I got it up to around 45 psi which seemed to clear it out and was running well, road test proved perfect and heard from the owner that he had no issues, Rick

Thank you for this, it was something i was thinking about, I watched a video on someone fitting a pump behind the offside rear wheel.

Sorted (hopefully)

The Patrol is back, faster smoother and more handsome than ever.
Quick recap, it was running fine then no throttle, started great but only intermittent throttle response, TPS i thought, changed that and ok for a few miles,New fuel filter, no different, new MAF sensor, better then same old issue,
I was just about to buy a fuel pump, new lines and fuel regulator and found a thread somewhere about TPS replacement and it said disconnect the battery for 20min afterwards and when reconnected the ecu find the new tps and resets. done that and it worked great, for 20 miles. I had a replacement micro switch (what does it do?)to put on the pedal and while i was at it, took off all the earth points i could find on the engine and sanded the till i could see my face. all back together and touchwood all is good.

Wow!!!!! So a dodgy earth almost cost you a fortune for no reason

Sometimes it really does pay to just go back to basics :thumb2 :bow
