I seem to have the switch in the correct place but not sure if it's wired up or even if I have the relay etc etc

Apart from what I've listed above, what else do i need in order to get this working?

I'd like to get this working if possible especially as I now tow a trailer quite often, it would stop me from having to lean over the passengers seat and stretch out to do it by hand

these switches seem to self destruct when getting them out, would not be surprised if that has happened and was put back with the internal bits missing, Rick
