Egr valve probs

HI ALL YESTERDAY I BLOCKED OFF THE EGR VALVE DUE TO IT SMOKING A BIT AND CLEAND OUT THE MINI FILTER IN PUMP TO MY ASTONISHMENT I DROVE THE T2 TODAY AND THE SMOKE WAS WORSE THICK BLACK SMOKE SO IVE UNBLOCKED THE EGR VALVE CAN ANYONE SHED ANY LIGHT ON THIS PROBLEM CHEERS

YES I BLOCKED OFF THE ONE COMEING OUT OF THE VALVE,
THE ONE TO THE REAR OF THE ENGINE JUST BEHIND THE MANIFOLD IS THIS CORRECT
