Hi all,
Back again with another request regarding my mates 03 3.0 Terrano, he's just had the pump rebuilt and now its thrown up an eml apparently the egr valve needs cleaning, i was just reading up regarding blanking it off but one of the posts said it can cause boost issues so what is he best doing, removing and cleaning or blanking and if blanking what other mods are needed please?
Thanks.

others will be on with more info than me but unless you know what you are on, do not blank the valve on a 3, it is more complicated than you think, Rick

I expect it will be a mechanic who does the job, is he better off just getting it cleaned do you think?

My experience of the 3 with its weird inlet manifold is that the manifold needs removing and de gungeing, it is a piss poor design, you will be surprised what is in there gunge wise, Rick

If its anything like a transit banana engine i can imagine, i'll let him know, thanks Rick.

Have your chum clean the inlet manifold anyway.
It gets seriously coked on the EGR side.

It is possible to blank the EGR without any other mods.
Just a small adjustment on the VNT screw at the turbo to compensate for the blank.
That’s if the Terranno’s have that type of turbo?

arnt new mot rules say if its blanked its now a fail as they must be as fitted at maker.

Apparently they cannot be tested unless it is on a rolling road so a blanking plate in between should be fine.

I couldn't say, maybe someone will come along and let me know,
Nice job cleaning that lot up, i bet that made a difference!

From what I understand about it from chats with Robby Barrbeast, it's best practice if you're going anywhere near the EGR on the ZD30 to then look at doing the NADS mods (Nissan Anti Detonation System) I think it's fondly known as.

There's a really good write up with pictures over at MyPatrol4x4.com that I'm going to steal and credit the owner with :thumb2

Thanks for that i'd best have a look and inform myself, he's recently spent loads on it due to the carelessness of someone else and if anything else goes wrong he may end up tearing his hair out!

Yeah that's what I did, or you can go full NADS and fit the dawes and needle valves etc :thumbs

There may even be a write up in my Foxy Project thread although pics might have gone as they were photobucket

A good clean-up of the manifold is a really easy and good place to start.
Yes the truck was a lot more responsive.
Tip: While the manifold is out, check the 4th glow plug seal at the rear isn't letting oil by. You can get to the other three easily.

I then went on to carry out the full NADS mod:thumb2

Thanks gents, he's thinking about replacing/renewing the egr valve now as he's a bit paranoid about the mot, my friend is a tester so will have to check with him but i will pass on all of every ones very useful information as it sounds to be the right way to go,
If he does replace the egr valve are there any makes to go for, stay away from?
Thanks.
