Hi guys..can anybody help with this dilema? My son has been selected to ride for team GB speedway U19's in sweden on August 7th..been trying to research the cheapest and most efficient cost wise of how to get to Eskiltuna Sweden for this event.. Never driven abroad for a length of time only round holiday places in spain a couple of times!! Sh**ting it to be honest as money tight and looks like I'll be the only driver.
Any help or advice?
Cheers Rich..

Some basic regulations:
•You drive on the right-hand side of the road.
•Law, even when sitting in the back seat requires wearing seat belts when travelling in a car.
•Headlights must be used 24 hours a day.
•You must be aged 18 or older and hold a valid driver's license.
•Speed limits range from 110 km/h (65mph) on main highways, 70 km/h (43mph) on smaller roads, and 50 km/h (31mph) in towns and cities.
•The legal alcohol limit in Sweden is stringent, and alcohol should be avoided completely when driving.

Driving abroad is a doddle and the roads are far better than here. The drivers too are much more switched on:thumbs
I've just come back from Holland. we drove cause it was the cheapest way, but were lucky as we could share the driving:rolleyes:
You need to sit down and take some notes using RAC auto route europe.
Work out the drive times/mileage from say Dover, Harwich etc ferry ports. Then go back to ferry tickets . com and check out the prices . It's usually cheaper to ferry at night by the way.
I found it cheaper to do Dover/Calais and then drive than to do Harwich to Hook of Holland.;)
Diesel is cheaper in different parts of europe too so check that out so you fill up at the right places.
Google is your friend :lol
Good luck:cool:

congratulations to your son :clap im a huge speedway fan and used to support halifax dukes many years ago .... ah the famous eric boocock ... not forgetting kenny carter too ( rip )

Cheers Briggie, saw some dukes footage not too long ago from a photographer friend of mine, looked like a good race track. I used to go as a kid with my dad etc to cradley, long eaton etc but didnt carry on going when i hit my teens, girls and beer more exciting..lol. But my son started grasstracking then had a go at speedway and was fairly good but inconsistant as is still the case.

cheers mate , the shay ( dukes track ) was quite rare because it was a banked track which made for far more exciting racing ,... good luck to your son :thumb2

dream drive, would love to go across northern europe,
have done ever since a kid when hoped would be a
volvo tractor unit and trailer back to its home!

funny back then think they drove on left, obviously
not one of their best decisions joining eu lol.

take plenty of pictures, and watch out for their wagons
some are much longer than ours. typical is a 40 foot
artic trailer on a dolly draw bar onto a 20 foot rigid unit.

No not taking Mav, going in the Transit as Got to take bikes and all equipment etc!! Still trying to work out best way, seems like there's a few different routes all varying massively in price!! Think driving all way is still the best option, ferries to denmark from germany very expensive, ferry from Newcastle to Gothenburg no longer available (would have been my prefered option) Ferry from Harwich to Denmark also very expensive too!!

how about from hull or somewhere further north in the uk ?

Well did the trip!! 2700 miles round, tunnel from Folkestone then long, long drive from Calais!!
Fuel prices almost the same as UK everywhere, even in Sweden where everything else is deffinately more expensive!! Around £6.90 for a bottled beer!! But the scenery and hotel etc were brilliant. Would like to go back but via plane..lol

Ah..the result was 1st Denmark, 2nd Sweden, 3rd Germany and last Team GB.. Pushed Germans all the way but they just had too much in their top 2 riders!! Bearing in mind that 4 out of 5 GB Riders were making their Debuts in any sort of competition abroad it was a good effort, but they also had a bit of an eye opener to see how far ahead the Danes and Swedes are with their equipment etc.
