driving on southport beach

i am about to go away to southport and was woundering if you can still drive on the beach their

the wife is learning to drive but on a lesson she was rear ended buy a touareg in a fiat stilo and is a little bit nervous about getting back behind the wheel so i thought if you could drive on the beach might get her confidence up a little

we are going to pontins for the weekend so its ok to take her out on it then make her see that the bigger car is better lol

been about 6 weeks since the accident and she hasn't got behind the wheel since

thats a swine, tell her to get stuck in, we had that happen. now mrs wouldnt
drive anything smaller than a terano or patrol! and tbh i often feel insecure
in aything much smaller especially as a passanger.

You can park on the beach in Southport but you have to pay, I don't think you can drive along the beach. We used to drive on at Ainsdale and then all along the beach to Southport, a good way of getting some one used to handling a vehicle. There is more room at the Ainsdale end.
If you are driving into Southport the park and ride is the best place to park you don't need to get the bus though as its a nice walk into town. We often use the Caravan Club site which is near the sea and a short walk through the park into town. This park is used for the famous Southport flower show which is on at the moment.
My wife had an incident when she was a learner and she stopped driving for ten years, she took it up again when we had children but she always regretted not persevering at the time.

If you are able to drive on the beach, I guess normal rules apply, eg Learners to have L plates etc..
When I was a kid we used to go to old airfields to practice....
No rules as such in those days (That we knew about anyway).

Many years ago we took the Mav onto Southport beach, and watch the attendant pull a Fiesta out rearwards, with a Toyota pickup, the sand was
pushing into the front wheels and brakes because the driver hadn't straightened the front wheels. Sand was everywhere.
Watch out for the very dry soft sand if there is any ....:lol
When you get home, wash off all the sand and salt. You'll be surprised where it gets... a bit like swiming in the sea.. :augie

Yes, keep on the hard sand, dont be tempted too near the sea, I have seen quite a few vehicles stuck in the sand, In my youth whilst riding my motor bike to fast I was chased by the beach warden! He easily caught me when I swerved out to the sea and hit a patch of soft sand and stopped very abruptly. I had friends who took part in the motorcycle sand races on the beach to the south of Ainsdale, quite exciting to watch especially the outfits, motorbike and sidecar. They built one with two triumph speed twin engines in tandem and a rear wheel and tyre from a small digger. It looked really good and attracted a lot of interest, unfortunetly it was so powerful along with the very knobberly rear tyre it just dug a Hugh hole and covered everyone nearby with sand, Enjoy your holiday, hope the weather is good for you.....bri

Ha Southport we use to make a bob or two in the summer months down the Ainsdale end by pontins pulling out stuck motors with me old 2A Green oval great days but I bet it's all changed now

cheers for that went down onto the beach for a little while after a chat with the gate man cost £3.50 to park/drive on the beach but you was limited where as it is just a carpark now wasnt too bad as the place was almost empty and the wife had a bit of fun until it started to pour down lol
