I've got a bit of a problem with the front door lock on my Y2000 T2. One of the NATS keys has stopped working remote, so I tried both keys in the door lock - neither work! Keys are fine in ignition lock and I've given the door lock a good dose of WD40 over the last week - still no joy. Had the door trim off and poked around, all seems ok but the key only moves about a quarter the amount of travel it needs to operate. Is there any way of finding the key number for the fitted door lock, being a NATS key there is nothing stamped on it. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Hi Andy, when I worked at Nissan dealers quite sometime ago we found gently waggling the key vertically in the locks used to help ease them off and of course the WD40 treatment too. If that fails it's possible the ignition has been changed before you got it and door locks are still original, have you ever been able to unlock them? Key numbers used to be on a white sticker in glove box, get a cheap standard key cut to that number and see if that will unlock them.

Thanks Jim. I'll have a look in the glovebox tomorrow - hopefully there may be a sticker there! Maybe I'm worrying about nothing, it would just be good to have a key that unlocks the door just in case! My NATS key stopped operating the remote after I replaced the battery - I have seen the procedure for 're-programming' keys. As I have 1 working key and 1 non-working key do I have to re-programme them both or just the dodgy one?
My T2 is 10yrs old this year - but it pulls my 'van like a good 'un and I love driving it - want to keep it going!!

If your talking about the downloads section that explains how to reprogram then it is for the seperate key fob remote with two buttons rather than the combined key with button on it. Think if it's the later you may have to take both to the dealer. What ever type they are both done at the same time to give them both identical codes.

PS could be your ignition key is worn to the ignition barrel and the door locks are like brand new so a worn key may not work if you get my way of thinking.

Have two nats keys for my 2000 T2. One works remote the other never worked remote since I got it. Both keys are well worn but the one that does not work remote looks as if all the small notches have been shaved off with a grinder. It may well not have been the correct key or not have been working right so someone shaved it. But it unlocks the doors fine for me though.

I think what often happens Dan is the tiny microswitches underneath the rubber buttons come detached - you can buy them on eBay but they are surface mount and quite a PITA to solder.....should be able to see if you pop the key apart....

Didn't know there was micro switches under the rubber but if there was they are probably gone a long time ago as the rubber on the key where you press it has a hole and feels like there is nothing inside to press. Have tried opening the key and changing battery but there is agood chance that it may not be the proper key for my vehicle at all but a old key doctored as a spare by the garage I bought the vehicle from. It will get me into the car and start the ingition though so it serves as an emergency spare.

There are a few people on ebay selling microswitches for the NATS keys. Have done a couple myself, it's not too bad if you have a soldering iron with a small bit and don't have the shakes. The later NATS keys don't seem particularly durable though, and I still can't get my head round how the key/ chip / immobiliser NATS system works!!

Last time I went soldering I burned a female relations silver brooch to a nice bronze colour. Would my felting blow torch attached to a household gas bottle turn my spare nats key all bronze as well do you think? Only joking but my key is probably not worth repairing as the rubber casing in fairly shot anyway.

Nice one:clap Do you know can the remote key unit in the ebay ad be reprogrammed like mentioned in the download section or would it need a trip to the dealer for reprogramming?

That will be it then - you should be able to feel them click on a good key as you press.....
