My rear door (boot) leaks slightly in heavy rain.
I have read the quick fix guide trick with the mastic, but mine is already bulging with mastic.
I have now been looking at the door lock adjustment.
When the door is closed, if you push on the door it closes up more so I decided to adjust the lock.
I loosened the hoop, pushed it in about 5mm (as far as it would go) and re-tightened it.
Now when I push the door it still closes up more AND the "door open" light illuminates on the dashboard:doh

I don't understand how tightening the lock causes the bottom part of the door to be FURTHER open, unless it is so tight that the door is flexing in the middle and out at the bottom?

Anyone have any suggestions :(

You may need to adjust the hinge end of things. Same idea, just undo a little bit the three bolts and nudge the door/hinge in a bit then retighten. Close door and repeat allowing for alignment all round. You've basically got a door fixed in three places in space so each point could need adjusting to get the end result right.:)
TIP take the spare wheel off first.

Door locks have a two part lock, by pushing the "hoop in by 5 mm you are only getting the first stage lock, you need to back it off a bit so it engages 1st & 2nd stages, Rick

Thanks for the advice - you can tell a good car forum by the willingness of members to provide advice even on the silliest of things. :thumb2

RESULT. :clap

I loosened off the lock to its furthest "out" setting and tried that, it does close up in two stages. I then moved in it a little at a time until it closes nice and tight without it failing to catch the second stage.

The door open indicator now goes out and you can visually see that the door is a much better fit.

I am now hoping this will cure the small leak on the rear.

Next on the list:
Change belts
Change water pump
Change oil and filters
Change glow plugs
Replace noisy bearing inside water pump
Flushout and replace coolent with new
Underseal the rusty chassis and underseal.
Replace radio cassette with Bluetooth CD player making custom facia plate.

PS happy new year
