The bite point on my clutch has been right at the top of travel since I bought it.

I knew that a new clutch was probably only a few thousand miles away.

This week it started to slip in 4th. Today it was slipping in third.

I am going to order a new one from milners.

Should I buy a full kit or just the Plate and release bearing?

Whilst I'm having the job done, is there anything else worth doing at the same time?

I read on the other clutch post recently that arounf ~£150 to £200 is the going rate.

Can anyone recommend a good garage in south east wales?

Thanks

buy the whole kit, three parts.

cant recommend a garage in Wales, but yes, I paid £150 labour (£125 for decent clutch kit from milners) oh and 10 for a spigot wotsit that mine was missing.

any garages quoting much over that dont want the work!

Good one in garage land Swansea "Hafod Clutch Center" they did our Focus clutch and at the time were the cheapest I could find :thumb2 Job was done pdq and no probs.

A mixed result today:

Garage 1 "Its a big job Nissan quote 7.5 hours labour £481 all in"

Garage 2 "i'm not using your own parts and its £600"

garage 3 " I'll get back to you on the price, but you don't need to touch the torsion bars like you said, last one we done just dropped the plate the gearbox was mounted to and slid it out"

I'll get some more quotes tomorrow, the first one to quote something in the £300s gets the job.

Is it not easier to take the engine out ?

keep trying, labour plus parts should be no more than £350 really. The third garage might beon the right track, lets see what they say...although when I got my quote from the chap up by us, he didnt even draw breath, "itll be £150 labour", sorted. Not sure how long it took, but you can bet anything it wasnt 7.5 hours labour lol, no way.

yep engine out

rick n swifty took my engine out all done 5 hours including tea and cakes :thumb2

You can do it with the torsion bars left in :thumb2 Labour time was less than 7.5 hours on mine didn't stay to watch though, went to work to pay for it :lol
Garage wont fit your parts 'cause he wont make any more money out of you ;)

Just an update on this:

After phoning around loads of garages the best price I could get was £300 cash in hand for the labour only.

The car is now rolling again today.

Quick question: the outside air temperature is showing a fixed 11 c. it's nearer 21 c today. I think the garage may have damaged or not re-connected the sensor?

Where is the location of the sensor so I can have a look?

Thanks

I wouldn't buy parts then ask the garage to fit either, if the parts are wrong or faulty you will have to pay labour all over again. And it gives them an excuse to blame the parts for any problems.

Let them do the lot and then it's all their fault :thumb2

I did mine with son in law, who is qualified and experienced and it took us a lot less than 7.5 hours and we did a few other things at the same time. I think it was more like 3 hours but i could be wrong.
