HI
had a look around engine bay today .
found an extra engine dip stick .
the one i use is at the rear of engine O/S side looking from the front.
the other one is same side half way along engine with a retainer bracket fasterned to inlet manifold steel pipe runs into block just above sump pan.
when i pulled this dip stick out it had been cut/broke off short only reached to bottom of engine block.
the handle on rear dip stick is yellow plastic.
other one has been cut off flush.
how many you got.

wonder if someones put auto engine in at some stage and youve found the dipstick for auto box?
 
I've just been out to have a look at mine & I can only find one which is yellow plastic at the rear of the engine on the o/s. I wonder if Jace is right :? :? but i'll have a better look just incase tomorrow :roll:

THE DEFUNCT ONE IS IN MIDDLE OF ENGINE JUST BEHIND THE INJECTOR PUMP
DEFINATLY GOES TO SUMP .
THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL MULTI CONNECTOR THAT SITS DIRECTLY ABOVE IT THATS HOW I MIST IT FOR 3YRS.
TO USE THIS DIP STICK REQUIRES A LOT OF FIDDLING ABOUT TO GET IT TO GO DOWN TUBE SO WONDER IF IT WAS DONE AWAY WITH AND THE OTHER ONE FITTED.
REMEMBER THIS TRUCK WAS REGISTERED BY NISSAN 3 MONTHS BEFORE PRODUCTION RELEASE DATE.
BEEN SURGESTED WAS USED AS A DEMONSTRATOR BY NISSAN .

You've got me wondering so i'll check tomorrow :smile: I wonder if that was where they 1st intended having the dip stick but found problems with it being there & fitted a new type where the rest of us have it :? Rover had problems with the K series engines as the 1st ones were plastic & kept melting 8O After 3 years they changed them to steel ones
 
the k seris was just one problem in bigger problem called rover! mind you 3 yrs to fix it is pretty good going look at how long they made discos lol

Ian, the injector pump is on the off side (o/s) Your first post says dipstick is on n/s (near side)
 
Hi Ian, so you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine, is Sheila with you I hope for saftey sake :smile: as you look at the engine on the Left just in front on the sterring wheel the Dipstick thats under the bonnet (not in front of the car -banghead- :lol: ) is yellow that's to measure the engine oil with :roll: :lol: the one on the outside of the engine bay is -banghead- :?: :?: :?: -banghead- Well :!: :wink: :lol: :lol:
