Hi,

1st post, just had my T2 for a few days and have now managed to fix the heater fan already with thanks to this forum - you guys rock!

My T2 is a May 1996 2.7TD SE model with the square headlights - last of the Mk1? - with aircon and when I went bellyup in the passengers foot well, I couldn't find my resistor like in the workshop download :-( I also had a big plastic box filling a lot of space down there that I worked out is part of the aircon system.

Having popped in and out to compare wiring to diagrams online and a bit o head scratching later, out came the glove box to find a connector with four wires all the right colour (blue/white, blue/yellow, blue/orange and blue/red) but the shape was all wrong and the connector faces straight out towards the back of the car.

Pulled it all out and it's a weird metal box with the resistors inside, yay! Now for the really odd part, this assembly has 5 connections and only four in use, three had the leads to the selector switch connected (ly, lo & lr) one the feed (lw) and one nc. Checking with the multimeter showed that the resistors were all good and connected, the break was between the blue/white connector and the one not connected.

Pulled it all apart some more and sure enough there is a wee joiner had broken free inside between these two connectors, but had Nissan plugged the lead to the other connection they wouldn't have needed this joiner at all! :doh

So, to cut this long story short, I moved the blue white connector to be above the blue yellow in the multiplug and now it all works again as it should! :clap

I took some rough photo's on the phone while lying upside down in the car (my carpet smells!), will try and post these later.

Hope all that makes sense!

oh yes, great to have pics.

post them up with a few words with each, Bat21 ( BOSS ) can sort out an update for the download then.

well you've saved you £10... so whats next?

Well these aren't to great but hopefully describe what I was looking at!

Seem to only be able to upload one at a time, view from the foot well after the glovebox has gone, easy to remove actually, just undo the two screws on the bottom hinges and then a bit of wiggle gets it out of the way.

Metal bar had to be undone at one end to gain access to the resistor, bit rusty on mine! Resistor is the white block looking straight at you.

Final shot, the resistor pulled out and on the table looking down to the connectors, the wires connect from left to right, top to bottom:

No Connect, Blue/White, Blue/Orange
Blue/Yellow, blank, Blue/Red

Fix for me (and this looked like a weakness in the design here was to winkle the blue/white spade out of the connector and move it to change the row of three to be:

Blue/White, No Connect, Blue/Orange

As to what next, well looking at the rust under the glove box, I think I know where the water is coming from, time to dig under the wiper arms I think! This forum has to be the best £10 I've ever spent!

It was originally, solder residue on it and where it would have joined to the n/c connector.

that one of the resistors, I have fixed one before.

The metal goes more narrow so when too much amps go through it heats up melting the solder causing the joiner to break away.

Thanks for the kind words, anything to help!

Fez, that's the baby - failed to take a close up last night! Not sure why the join is there at all as I just moved my wire over to the connector that it joins to. Maybe a overload cut out feature or just a way of selling spares in the future??

Rusty metal under the dash !!

Has any body noticed that most of the metal work under the dash is un painted, no primer, it's just plain un treated steel, ready to rust.....:doh

Why did Nissan choose this option, when they could have painted it?

Brilliant. Thanks Fez. This definitely needs to go up as a tech sheet as I was utterly baffled that mine looked nothing like the stuff in the download section.

The metal tag in my 'metal cage' resistor pack had indeed come loose. A quick fix and I now have all fan speeds again!

good to hear Ian. Went to the whsmiths in carmarthen today and they didn't have july's issue of 4x4 mag.

Would you be able to speak to someone at the mag for me to get it?
