diesel/oil smell

hi all, i'm quite new here but can anyone help me? i have a diesel or oil type smell when the terrano is warmed up and with the windows open, i have a 2002 3.0 sve terrano, have read about the spill pipes in other posts, and have taken a look at mine but i can see them are they the same as the 2.7 model or do i have a differant problem, i would be greatfull for any help, thanks

Do you have any signs of a leak when you look under the car or anything left on the ground after parking up?

I get similar smells in my 2.7. My problem is the lower gear lever boot, below the gear lever boot that attaches to the centre console there is a rubber boot that fastens to the tranmission tunel which splits open and lets air and smells into the cabin when the windows are opened.

jim thanks for the info i will take a look at mine tomorrow, that could be the problem cause i had new bearing fitted in my gearbox a few months ago and i have had the smell since then,

jim, checked mine and the lower boot was not even attached, fixed it back on now,..... going to silverstone tomorrow so the journey there will be a good test, thanks for you help !!
