hey chaps.

had a leak of diesel for a while, it turns out. Found the leak at the back of the engine, injector number 4 leak off pipe the one that is blanked off. The rubber bung form the leak off kit I bought from Halfords had failed, gone soft and pissed quite a lot of diesel out!!

I have fitted a spare bung that came with the kit, but is there a better more reliable way to blank off that outlet??:bow

Cut the end off a 4" nail and fit in the end of a section of leak off pipe with a small jubilee clip, I've got just the size of nail in my garage if you need it Clivvy. A bolt would probably work but I've heard of someone else using a bolt and the diesel found it's way passed the threads and caused a small leak.

Good to see you again today Clivvy

Fuel Rubber kit from Halfords, not suitable for diesel fuel...:doh

Looks like they have gone down the same cheap parts sourcing route as everyone else...:doh

Have you used bio, could that have caused problems?

i have a leak off pipe kit from halfords on mine for at least 18 months if not longer no issues 1st one tho did let go

Cheers Jim I think I have some nails but I'll come to you if not. I'll do that.

Rustic, no bio, have run some 2 stroke through a couple of times. I get the impression that the rubber bung is poor quality and has softened allowing fuel to leak out when under pressure....

The things is Rustic everyone is using bio if you like it or not as by law a % of bio has to be mixed into fresh diesel:doh not something they like to shout about but at least in this country we get a lower % than most EU countries:augie Had my halfrauds leak off pipes on for over a year & all has been fine but i'm sure I didn't fit the rubber bung thing as the ones I took off were the factory ones & had a stopper that fitted into a bit of leak off pipe which I reused:thumbs

there is no pressure on that pipe to speak of, sounds like rubbish bung tho, Rick

Yep, Rick did mine for me including the mini blocked one. All were leaking and Rick replaced the lot, without clips (which mine had on) all are still fine and dry as a bone :thumb2

Don't forget the longer leak off that runs to the pump too!!! Mine was split bad!!!

Cheers guys. I've replaced the bung with a spare but it is my intention to buy some better fuel pipe and make up a better bung...!

Hi, I need to check my leak-off pipes soon as there is quite a smell....When i remove the Intercooler (i read the glow plug download), i thought of replacing the foam sealing strip, as i can see bits of it pertruding in places, so i guess its perished.
I wondered if a piece of thin foam draught excluder, would be ok ? Or does it need to be a special type of foam?
Thanks, in advance,
Simon

I used draft excluder! It sticks quite well....
