The seam on my diesel tank is leaking, I need to drop the tank to see if it will repair, BUT in the meantime I need to see what a replacement tank will cost.

Vehicle is a Diesel, LWB Maverick 1995 TD version.

Options available.
New tank...£. any ideas. I might ring the main dealer, April 1st coming up...:lol:lol

Old second hand tank which might leak all ready or will do next year.:doh

Will a Tdi tank from a later Mav/ Terrano be suitable? At least it will be more recent. Have seen one on ebay locally.

With easter coming up, I don't want the Mav off the road, and the MOT is due 4 weeks today.
So I won't be dropping tank for 3 weeks.

But in that time I could source one, clean it up, test it, and have it ready to put in.

Any suggestions?
i
Rick suggested welding, but the front seam has expanded and opened up causing the slight leak.
I intend to keep the Mav for a while yet, had it 18 years, and this is the only thing that has put the MOT at a risk of failure in that time. :doh

Thanks guys for your suggestions,

best regards,

Rustic

Could the seam be cleaned up and use some belzona 1121 i think we use at work we refaced a steam turbine casing with it where it had become worn with too much wet steam going through it its still going strong
We have also used it to seal leaking tanks
Just athought to buy you some time i think i would go for a new tank if the price is not too stupid

My tank was leaking and even worse when I cleaned it up :doh
However I couldn't find another in the short time my tank was off so I simply used some plastic metal putty stuff. So far so good and two years on, oh and much offroad abuse too :thumbs

Where was the leak?

I have bought some plastic padding Leak fix, so when I have the time I really need to drop the tank and look see.

Two years is good though:thumb2

In fact 2 years and a month... will get me through 3 more MOTs:thumbs

thanks,

Rustic

Main leaks were along the top side of the seam. As I cleaned off the muck I just kept finding more, so I stopped :lol
Filled the whole seam edge though :thumbs
Since then I've left the mud on :D

That's encouraging, exactly where mine is.

I think I will plug the obvious, let it cure, then go over the whole lot, maybe with some reinforcement mesh and more epoxy:thumbs Then zinc primer, maybe waxoyl.

If that works, then I'll make sure the tank never gets filled more than half way.:augie

Thanks again,

Rustic
