I have a M redg Mav and for a while now when you turn key to start there is a delay in starting probably about 3 seconds, although for the first time this morning..nothing. But turn the key off then back on and it fires immediately.
Any ideas??? Just annoying me a bit as everything else is fixed up!!

you could look at battery terminals, some times the break up. was covered on here a while back

also doddgey terminals on the back of the ignition switch..

Sounds a bit like the ignition switch that's fastend to bottom of steering lock. People tell me that when it's giving problems you can turn the key slowly and it works correctly. If it is switch it's better to buy a new one as second hand may be just the same, easy to change too.

Took the cowling off but everything looks fine, where's the best place to get a new switch from?

Its just the switch bit at the back of course, not the whole barrel. As Jim says, you won't see anything - the only way to tell if its the switch is to turn it VERY slowly and see if it fires normally....the contacts usually burn out causing the problem.

yes, you wont see the problem inside the ignition part unless you take the whole barrell off and take it apart, but then its an arse to put back togther. The contacts corrode so you end up with a problem liek what you are having.Get a new barrel, mine was only £15 used but works great.

Okies thanks for the replies..I'll try and get it sorted sometime this week!! Has been happening for a while but this was the first time it didn't fire after the usual delay..
Cheers Rich
