Had a cracking day at Slindon today pics and vids later, as not on my cameras, BUT broken diff output shaft sorted earlier, I should have checked the shaft into the CVJ as half hour of Slindon work killed it, so spent the rest of the day in 3 wheel drive, meant plenty of winching which was enjoyed by my two passengers immensely, but we could still traverse most of the difficult parts impressively, anyway a great day, now to do the repairs, Rick

Bloody hell, you proper put that through hell mate ! :D

Is this a Terrano weakness then or due to excess cv angle ?

Is it the actual drive shaft that's broke ?

yep it is the shaft, hanging out of the CVJ, boot do not think the CVJ is happy either as it was clicking on lock, but it should not have been turning as it was out of 4 wheel in my yard prior to loading on the trailer, seems odd things happen when a diff is locked up, so for better control will research a Lokka, but I do have to say in the T2's defence on the day I did the deed I was being very very aggressive not wanting to fail in front of a large audience of green oval owners who had just rescued one of there own on the same climb, on top of that I had two passengers on the nearside compounding the issue, Rick

Rick I can vouch for the half shafts with both manual and auto hubs, but not had a welded diff on mine :lol
Bear in mind I've been running 33s aggressively for a couple of years and now on 35s.
No issues with shafts. I have once killed a cv, but then it was the one issued in 1996 :augie
If you're serious about the Lokka let me know as I'm about to buy one for my trol, you never know, we may be able to hussle a deal :sly

yes think you are right but with an open diff the other wheel can take the load and apply slippage, with a locked diff, the wheel spins then hits grip, the sudden shock is too great, nothing to give, a lokker will give the same response, unless it has some kind of give like a high load clutch, could this be the reason landies do shafts? but yes want a lokka, is it a complete replacement or an internal jobbie, but how does it work? Rick

just found a bit about lokkas they replace the planet gears in the existing dif and seem to be able to decide when to lock and when to slip, this sounds good but this is salesman talk, I need REAL information, cos if I go this route then I will have one front and rear, Rick

Rick have a butchers on this site http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/
There's loads of first hand blurb on them on there. Rated as the dogs danglies short of air lockers which cost 4 times as much and need compressor and tank ladeda :thumb2

Thanks Pete, know how they work now, impressive although I am not sure how well the dog clutch will put up with receiving bouncing good traction no traction, dog clutch in and out under no load then sudden high load, but will work well with auto hubs, so I want one, decided that I will "adjust" the rear diff, Rick

I was going to buy mine last month but work got a bit slack so I waited and now the bloody pound is falling :( so if you're serious I'll see what price we can get.
PM me if you want :thumbs
