On my maverick there is a green light on the dash its a picture of four wheels joined by a line. What does it mean and should it be on all the time.:nenau

is yours a newer maverick?

thats the 4 wheel drive light

Green light should only be on when in 4 wheel drive AND actually be offroad doing it.

Does the four wheel drive actually work? What year truck is it? Auto hubs ?
Does the 4wd hi lo lever work ? Give it a good twatting back and fore between 4wd hi and 2 wheel drive :sly

its a 1996 lwb maverick with the round lights. 4wd works and auto hubs work and all gears work fine

That's good :thumb2 Sooo there must be some sort of sensor that's sticking on in the transfer box I guess.:augie. Have a spy underneath and follow all the wires to see where it is then give THAT a good twatting :lol

OR try an engineering approach first...
There are 2 switches on the Manual version, one is the reverse on the gearbox, and the other is the 4x4 selection on the transfer box, so disconnect the switch and the light should go out.
If that works, remove the switch..

If that fails... follow makeitfit's advice above :lol :lol

I like it.... fix it with a hammer lol

sounds stupid but!

you do reverse after driving forward in 4wd don't you? Other wise the auto hubs don't disengage.

Are you sure the hubs work properly? they are tricky things, what year is your mav?

Green light should still go out regardless of the hubs, working or not. The sensor just works on the transfer box operation.:thumbs

ok clever clogs :doh

but I don't trust them auto hubs one bit :nenau

They';re a bit like cats I think, they suit themselves it seems. They'll be fine till that most tricky hilly cross rocks bit and one will have a fit :doh
Take it home feed it grease and all's well.

sensor switch knackered.

on my troll it was on all the time but I knew was in 2wd

even jacked up front end to spin wheels etc.

however i did note that one dark snowy night putting
into 4wd the green light became brighter.

forget light, trust the position of the lever, unless on
modern electronicially dialled 4wd like pathfinder.
