Noticed a slight amount of play in the O/S ball joint of the cross rod. Would anyone know if this is a complete unit and if it is a dealer part only?It is only just starting to wear, but I would like to change it before it starts wearing my tyre. Is it a straight forward job?

In Australia these are a dealer part only.
When they wear they cause tyre damage and problems with tracking and alignment. You will also notice a vagueness about the steering action and kickback on rough roads. Its a stupid design from Mr Nissan. Raising the front suspension makes the problem even worse as the tie rods act at an increased angle to the draglink and cause it to rock even more. It's the rocking action of the drag link (cross link) that causes the above mentioned problems.

the part in question is known as a relay link rod, it does come as a complete unit with a ball joint on each end. they are expensive, over £200 from the dealer, i bought one off ebay a new pattern part for £85 delivered. it took about 45 mins to change it made loads of difference to the steering, i had tracking checked it was off the scale, so after it was adjusted it feels like a new truck all the best Andy:thumbs
