hi guys i have a 2.7 tdi lwb t2 and the whole suspension seems so crashy and you feel every bump in the road.

it feels like a car that has just been lowered on coilovers im running 31 x 10.50 x 15 tyres without a lift at the mo.

but im wondering if it needs new shocks all round and new springs at the back.

there is also a clanging sound coming from the front suspension sounds similar to when the drop links went before.

it sounds like the whole front suspension is loose and is when going over ruts ridges in the road

??????

My front end seemed odd, I looked under & saw the bump stops were only a few mm away from the rubber, adjusted the torsion bars, made a real difference.
I guess with my weight in it the bump stops were on the rubber so no front suspension at all

if you get under, and shine your torch up at the top of the suspension, hwo does it look?? could be a spring has snapped or coem away from the suspension mount?as for the shocks, id jack the car up and inspect them, if they are old, get em replaced but also check everything else before you do, the suspension setup on these seems more complex than other cars, what with all the links etc, but if you say the ride is crude, then id almost certainly be looking at the shocks first.

.

hi guys my torsion bars seem ok and the ride height at the front looks ok but i'll have a look at the shocks again today they look like they are original and the truck is now 14 years old so could be the culprit.

What are your tyre pressures like?

Standards should be 26psi all round and larger tyres like that run around 24psi (bigger tyre = more air = greater weight carrying capacity = lower tyre pressure for same vehicle weight).
