just a couple of questions, wonder if anyone can help...

1) im about to overhaul my brakes. ive got some new SS brake lines and some front pads but i also need to 'overhaul' my rear cylindors. does anyone know if you can buy cylindor seals just by themselves or whether ill have to buy new cylindors all together??

2) i think ive got a cracked exhaust manifold on my '98 tdi and have found a replacement but its off an earlier td. anyone know whether the exhaust manifolds on the diesels were the same throughout the cars history??

any help appreciated, tom

the last time i replaced cylinders, i used brand new QH parts and the pair only cost me (trade) about £22 (ish) so it may be worth just buying new cylinders.

In my experience, it's not worth using replacement seals, especially if they are leaking, the bores are usually badly corroded and will damage the new seals. You still end up replacing the cylinders anyway.
Best regards, Rustic

AS ABOVE!!!!

I decided that seal kits were the way to go on my last landy's front callipers, 1st brought some pattern parts, after stripping down the callipers i found they didnt fit! Then brought some land rover ones, fitted these and they leaked within the month!!! THEN brought some refurbished callipers.

Waste of time and money. False economy :)

hi whotmot.
there has been a lot of tips on here about bleeding the brakes.
the main one was only press the brake pedal HALF WAY instead of all the way to the floor when bleeding the brakes.
this is because the bore gets worn and damages seal if pedal travels to far.
