Cooked alternator

Think the alternator on my terrano is toast. The trucks voltmeter is in the red at 16 volts. Im not at home at the Minuit so can't check with multimeter. I thought it could be the regulator that's blown but the alternator is red hot I sprinkled it with water and it fizzled away:doh

I hav another alternator if this is the prob. Everything on the truck seems ok. Radio works and so do my led bulbs which would of been popped with high voltage

Ideas anyone?

Loosen the belt? So it doesn't turn. Should be able to run for a good few hours without lights.
