Ok,heading West tomorrow to Connemara for the weekend. Forecast is not too good but hopefully the tent won't end up in the Atlantic. First time camping for about 20 years so it should be interesting.:D Just me and the missus, large tent and of course that essential for old people,a blow up mattress and real pillows. None of this hard ground and rolled up jacket for a pillow lark for us. It will be like 4 star camping (I wish). Any quick tips or things to watch out for?

How large is a large tent...?

Me and my missus thought buyin a huge 8 man tent would be good for the two of us plus a toddler ... well, till it came to putting it up in a slight breeze!!!! :doh
First camping trip 1 hour in after alot of swearing and arguing, several broken poles due to the wind and feeling thoroughly naffed of the tent went in the skip and we went home again!!!! :lol

Laugh about it now though!!! :augie

Good luck... hav fun! :thumbs

Thanks ,that cheered me up no end:clap:clap Large as in six person, we did a trial set up in the garden, about twenty minutes and there was a breeze at the time. Campsite is at the beach,as in land side of dunes. Sea is probably only 20-30 yards from the site, so if it it gets windy it should be a lot of fun:lol:lol See link below

Well,we're back. Force 8 gales on Saturday night,we didn't end up in the Atlantic but when taking the tent down on Sunday, there were two poles cracked. Still,it held it's shape and kept the water out ,so I suppose that's a good test of a tent. Probably would have been 100% if we were pitched close to the hedge line instead of out in the open:lol If anyone is in the market for a good 6 person tent, I can highly recommend the Wynnster Shrike 6:thumbs Plenty of stand up room and STRONG, good enough for a Force 8 and belting rain. Going again for the next two weekends.
