Hi me in trouble again, I cannot play any AVI vids on my lappy (windows 8) have not tried for a long time but if I try now I get "cannot open this while UAC is disabled" so what is UAC and how can I enable it, Rick

Sweety you are a Gem, and thanks to Jonela too, all back to normal now, if the damn requester had said User Account Control it would have been easy, but UAC meant nothing to me, and did not think to google it, many thanks guys, Rick

Just upgrading to it work but from what I have heard from the other office I will stick with windows 7.
Loads of compatibility problems with some of the software they are running.
My desktop pcs at home are xp and vista.
Not really arsed about it to be honest.

Sadly XP is not supported by Microsoft anymore so it's wide open to security threats. Windows 7 is still my fave operating system but itll be interesting to see what the final release of Windows 10 will be like next year. Ive been using Windows 8 and then 8.1 at work for ages and hate it but its their laptop and not mine so they can decide what they want on it.

By the way Rick I use VLC Player for playing all kinds of video and have found it to be much more reliable than window media player

MMMMMM OK well I only use it for word processing, getting on here, and storing looking at pics and vids, so not found any real issues, what I do like, like, like is I do not have to wait ages for it to boot, but I am a simple soul, and not into all the other stuff available, Rick

Any one still using windows 3.11 ?
It loaded really fast on very slow computers in the olden days...

Still got it on one computer which I still use for running some old software, and floppy disc drives.
1.44 Mb of data... wow wasn't it a lot in those days, hardly one picture these days with digital cameras...

Yes I hear windows 8 was supposedly 15 seconds quicker at booting up

When I built my beast from www.scan.co.uk I checked operating systems, and actually, windows 7 is milliseconds quicker for gaming purposes, but looses out to superior loading/booting times of windows 8 :thumb2
