hi all, been having a look under the truck checking pipes etc, can anyone explain to me why you have to bleed the clutch at the back o/s, long metal pipe into block with bleed nipple, first one i've seen like this, im going to change pipe as it's leaking, tez

Hi Tezzer.
Asked this question a long time ago with no definative answer, from what I could glean this pipe is a damper of some description, that helps the clutch action become softer than it would normaly be without the pipe, hope this helps a bit.

I noticed that some members have replaced the flexible pipe to the slave cylinder and left the damper part out completely and had no problems. If fluid is incompressible then I don't see the need for it..... 8O
But Nissan must have had a problem at some time ! They wouldn't fit equipment that is non essential. They normally cut things to the bone.
So maybe they had a few problems with some, so rather than re-call they fitted it anyway. They probably forgot why they fitted it in the first place..
Best regards, Rustic.

It is descibed in the manual as a damper. Brake and clutch fluid is not totally uncompressable - I'm guesing the very short run of pipe from cylinder to cylinde must have been causing a quite aggresive clutch so they fitted the damper to soften it a bit.

Water is far less compressable but unfortunatly it is prone to making stuff rust and boils too easily too.

hi all, thanks for you information, i replaced my pipe today, cost nearly £43.00 the clutch seems ok now, but i may have a leak on the load sensing valve, does anybody know if you can do away with it by using a 3 way "T" piece or do you have to replace the valve, tezzer

hi siweb, yes i did buy from dealer i was'nt sure what it did so as the truck is off the road i bought one, the clutch is fine now thanks, but now the brakes are giving me problems, the dealer wants £566.00 inc vat for a load sensing valve, but i found parts gateway very good so i bought a second hand one for £10 +vat and del, and warranted for 3 months, so i am eaiting for that to arrive. thanks tezzer (terry)
