Got in the Mav today and found a small patch of brake fluid on the floor mat below clutch pedal. The fluid is also on the pedal too so assuming it’ll be the master cylinder that’s leaking.
So what are they like to replace and should I use any specific fluid?

Cheers

Two bolts on the bulkhead, one pipe and inside one clevis pin, Dot 4 fluid, Rick

That sounds simple, I forgot to ask about bending and basic gymnastic abilities too as I’m not sure the stoma nurses would approve of me attempting that sort of tomfoolery :thumbs

I think you might have to get your son to do it, as it does require a far bit of contortion work to get under the dash. There is the pin, and when you put it all back, you need to take it in and out a few times to get the adjustment to the connecting shaft the right length. Then getting the nuts on the studs is a bit fiddly. I took the bottom of the dash out in the end to make it a bit easier.

It's worth changing the Slave cylinder while at it, as in the past, both times I have had to do the master, on other cars, the Slave went while I was bleeding the system. On my T2, it was the other way round, the hose to the slave went, then while trying to bleed it, I thought the slave went, then once that was changed, and I was bleeding it, I discovered it was the master that had failed. I should have learnt from the past.

No Jim not for you, get your lad to do it, I now struggle to get under the dash, Rick

Thanks guys for the great advice, daren’t make any balls ups on this truck. I can imagine uncle looking down in dismay

got a good one here Jim from a 1995 Maverick.
Selling as a complete unit with all pipe work and slave cylinder.
Also has no damper from factory by looking at it.
£15 is what i'm asking.

I have a brand spanking new one in a box with all packaging from Ford :augie

It's a dizzy job - do it once & forget.

When I have done master cylinders in the past even though I was a lot younger back then I always used to get dizzy from working under the dash half upside down. Personally I would always replace with new or at the very least new seals.

Do it once do it right,

To be honest mate I haven’t really thought about it mate. I lost my brother on Friday and had to work all weekend.
Will try and take a look at it this week and see if it needs anything else.

Ah Crickey Jim!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry to hear that mate :( Forget about the car for now and focus on you and the family.

The truck will be there still when normality comes back around

Cheers pal, he’s at peace now which I think is the best thing when illness gets so bad. I didn’t actually say anything on here but the day before my big operation for cancer I was told that he had a form of cancer too. It’s the circle of life just sometimes it’s a smaller circle than it should of been.

Sorry for your loss Jim. RIP brother. As Zac said, truck issues will wait for you, and probably find 1 or 2 more to add to the list. :doh

How sad Jim sorry for your loss..

When you said you had lost him I thought he was AWOL.
