The following is a copy/paste from the Introduction forum - so one or two things may seem irrelevant (sorry)

Hi all

I live in Swineshead betweeen Boston/Spalding/Lincs & have just joined club + bought a banger (96 P reg) Maverick 2.7 TD LWB (GLS) and as it was fairly cheap it has a few odd things with it!

E.G - Like the clutch is W E I R D in that although it grips fine (& no known hydraulic issue) every few days although pedal will move (a bit) clutch will not operate/disengage. It will normalise IF you wobble the pedal (sometimes) & will usually go OK again if you start car in gear with clutch down (although there is slight tendancy for vehicle to clutch-grip - i.e. move car slightly). Local garage guy says clutch "CAGE" (bits between pedal & cylinder I guess) has been tinkered with/patched-up - but nobody knows what I mean by a clutch cage - so I can't easily go to salvage or new at FORDS as can't describe properly what I need!! Anyone know anything about this part of my car (H E L P)? Also could do with a handbook plus ideally a printed workshop manual (any ideas?). I am NOT very mechanically-minded - just got car as needed to tow horse trailer. Although I am an I.T. trainer - have never used forums before so may slip-up here too!!

Oh almost forgot does anyone live near me so I could see how seats all fold away - my very back seat (2 seats) won't fold - I think a lever is missing or something). NEED to fold or remove re getting tack into car and/or a wheelchair.

Know I'm new & asking for help - but any would be welcome - I could repay perhaps with my home computer knowledge/tips etc.

Please contact me asap if you can assist at all (direct email might be better whilst I play with learning how to use the forums - do:
1-2-1 (at) talktalk.net

Expect I'm going to regret making that public (oh well we'll see).

THANKS VERY MUCH - hope to meet some of you soon. - John (wilderness)

bet the plastick levevers on sides at bottom corner seat have busted off use an adjustable instead

wilderness,

As regards to the clutch, take a look at the pedal mount (pedal box) these are prone to cracking and bolts becoming lose, most of the pedal travel is then taken up with the bracket moving before the cylinder is operated.

My pedal mount fell apart,

Made my clutch slip as the pedal wouldn't fully return

The mount is a bit of a fiddle to remove and refit with the air duct in situ,

It had broke away at some feeble spot welds and cracked around the clutch master cylinder retaining stud, and was all bent up,

So I pulled it out and straighten it up then welded it,

If your mount has been badly repaired then chances are it will have to be replaced,

My back seat brackets packed in, it looked like someone got a bit mad with it, So Replaced it with a second hand seat,

My clutch pedal is a bit wierd too, I need to get my toe under it and kick it up a bit, once only. Otherwise it's hard to select gears. No trouble with it, no slipping or creeping.

The lever for the rear seat is on the bottom right hand side. It could be broken off.

Hello Wilderness,

Have you got the back seat button / knob sorted out,
If not i may have one here,
But not sure,
Is it possible to send a photo of where the Button / knob is missing?.

Mav.
