You wont be able to remove the engine because the sump wraps round the front diff not enough space to move froward.I tried to remove a gearbox by jacking the torsion bars down but found it very awkward best to remove the tension on the bars then you can just knock the ends off and remove the crossmenber out of the way.Hope this helps

to remove the torsion bars first jack up the front of the vehicle to take the weight off the suspension.next you have to loosen the torsion bar adjuster bolts until there is no tension on the bars.
next you have to remove the snap rings that hold the adjusters onto the bars(they are just in front of the cross member)mark the position of the bars on the adjusters before you remove them.i put a blob of paint on them so you can line them back up on assembly.
also mark them up where they fit into the front suspension arm.
the adjusters should tap off the bars.they might need a soaking in wd40 to get them to come off the bars.
once they have come off you can remove the cross member.
have done two clutches on these motors and they are not for the faint hearted.
the clutch is the easy bit.its all the work to get the gearbox off which makes it a pain in the arse....good luck:thumbs
