Hello all, towed my wife back today with suspect clutch? and loads of whirring noise, changed the master cylinder not so long back but had same symptoms - no pedal (on floor). Still able to drive by starting in gear so clutch is still ok. Opened bonnet still loads of fluid, got underneath gearbox it was noisy, turned it off quickly the clutch arm was very loose not even touching the slave cylinder rod. I pulled the rubber boot from round it and discovered the spring steel clip was off the clutch arm would this be the prob (can't see why) or is there something else - release bearing broke or clutch arm snapped? No pressure at control arm whatsoever.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Paul.

Is it the spring clip that holds the arm on to the pivot that is off or the one that locates the bearing on the arm? Either way it sounds as though you are going to have to remove the box and have a look, may even be a problem with the pressure plate, bad news I know. When you fitted the new cylinder did you check there was 3mm free play at the pedal?

Hi ya toolbox, its the spring clip that just puts the tension on the arm, thats the only one you can see through the hole_the rubber boot, but i cant see thats just the problem, must admit i did have to alter master cylinder rod i measured it against the old one but pedal would not return so fettled the adjuster rod bit by bit until it did and the biting point was were it was before.
Hope to hell i didnt have a hand in its demise!! DOH .thanks
