Hi all,

Ive got a new problem that has arised on the terrano just when I thought everything was going fine :doh.

Every now and then when I brake I get a click which sounds like its coming from the drivers side front, Ive jacked the front off the ground and been over every ball joint and linkage under there and cant find play in anything even the wheel bearings are fine. I replaced the pads about 3 months ago and greased all the sliders and everything seems honkey dory. The only thing I did find was slight play when you grab the caliper but this is the same on both which I think is them just moving on the sliders. Sorry for the essay but this has me stumped anyone else come across this before.

Cheers Guys..

Is it a single click or several almost constant clicking noise once you notice it?

Are you turning a corner, even just slightly?

Do you know if your front hubs are fixed or auto locking?

Could be the cv joint on its way out:nenau

Its only 1 click when you apply the brakes.. Best way to describe it is you can be driving and tap the brakes and it will click but then it could be fine for the next ten times you brake, Doesnt matter if you tap them or brake as normal its just the one click. Brakes dont bind and it pulls up in a straight line. Ive had a feel of the cv and it feels fine. The hubs are autos that have been welded up in the past so act like fixed. I thought it could of been this so removed the centres and it still makes the click.

Could be a caliper/pad problem, maybe a stone has lodged in some place, but I would check the top and bottom swivels, these are not so easy to test, wheel on the ground fabricate a lever that rests on the inner wheel rim that pushes the bottom wishbone up, as the car lifts can you detect any play in the joint, next the top wishbone same as before but you need to lever it down, Rick

As you brake the front dips down, so the click could be the front right anti roll bar drop link.

So on flat ground, hand brake off, if safe to do so, open driver's door, now try to rock the vehicle side to side, by pushing up on the car body near the roof, you may hear all sorts of clicks, you should only hear a whoosh sound of the shock absorbers, if all fine.

As Rustic says, check arb drop links, they are a weak point and fail a lot, could save your self a lot of messing around :thumb2

Can rule the droplinks out as they have just been changed with new and polybushed. But I have just had another look at them and they look a little tight i.e bush is very squashed on the drivers side. Is there a specific torque to set these at?

I don't know about torque, if the other side is not as squashed loosen drivers side till they both look the same and take it for a spin.

The nuts ar done up till they bottom out, if one side is compressed more than the other then you are probably on sloping ground that is what the ARB does, Rick
