Just one thing on safety, if you get a rear end shunt, the side pieces could penetrate the front seats...:eek:
I am especially careful when loading lengths of timber or tubing, that they are not behind any passengers, I place them at an angle.

As soon as I see the pic I thought a minor rear end could be devastating for the occupants in the front..

lovely idea and great build, to get round the possible safety issues, how about a 45 degree cut in the side rails, then re joined with a board and screws just strong enough to hold it together for normal use, in the event of a rear end shunt the 45 angle will divert forward force to the side pulling the screws and diverting the rear most board alongside the foremost board, just an idea, Rick
