Just after some advice please I've just got my Mrs a new car which is 4 years old and would like to clean under the bonnet and around the engine so could anyone tell me tge best way to do this and what to clean it with ? The engine is a 1.7 deisel cheers

If you do use gunk or similar, it can attack tarmacadam drives, as it actually dissolves the tar and washes it away, leaving loose stones on the drive, thus causing premature wear and tear, so tarp up first and catch all run off before washing down.
 
Steam cleaner, not pressure washer. Gets all the oil off, however getting all the oil off is not great.. I love a clean engine bay, looks great if you stay on top of cleaning it...
 
This is what a 21 year old Maverick can look like, with a bit (a lot) of care lol...
