Checking turbo is working

As per title really,

how can you check if the turbo is working or not?

all i know is that when driving you can hear a whine as turbo kicks in. its very noticable and cant be mistaken.

pull pipe off inlet manifold from turbo it will let you feel air flow coming out wont tell you if its running to proper presure or anything just feel wind gushin out!

hello bambam.
Had similar quandry some time ago. Recommend you search my posting "Turbo waste gate". I got interesting tips and info from others. Seems to be various opinions about turbo noise.
I now just assume my turbo is performing OK because the waggon pulls well and exhaust is clean.
Would like to fit a boost guage to monitor what is happening. May get round to it someday.
