Thats the usual price. No way would that sell for £800 mark.

Still probably pretty good for the money. But no point going for mega pulling power 10,000-12,000 is more than ample.

Winch-it have some good deals with synthetic rope.

Synthetic rope is far safer if it was ever to snap, won't rust & a lot of the good ropes will float on water, it's lighter & easier to handle plus no chance of sharp bits of wire digging into your hands:thumb2 TBH if I had the funding for a winch i'd go for synthetic rope over wire any day

no question Dyneema is far better than steel, only a short while ago I had to winch up hill as lost traction, my winch girl was standing near the tree I was on, and I suddenly got traction, lurched forward but then lost it again and even with the brakes on ran back down the rather steep hill, the result was a sudden jerk on the rope which snapped it, no recoil, just dropped to the ground, I shudder to think if it had been wire, possibly no more Sarah, just my thoughts, Rick

Funny, that's exactly what I looked at before going down the manual road :thumb2

bit too cheap for that power, but if you only use it once or twice maybe OK, my 13000 lb winch has been used tens of times and at long winch times as well, and still going strong, Rick

Synthetic rope is lovely to work with, Especially when respooling.

Only time I use wire now (if I had some spare) is when pulling logs out etc

Maybe that will be next on my list then as I have cable.

Why anti cable? Because of splitting?

You can't use synthetic rope with a tirfor. Basicly with a electric winch it spools back onto the drum easier. Steel rope can kink tends to spool very uneven so next time you come to use it it's a pain to get back off.

Also as rick says, Synth rope does not hold energy like steel. When it snaps it just drops rather than whips about.

Not sure if Synthetic rope would work on a hand winch some how don't think it would. With a power winch Alex if the steel cable snaps it tries to coil up again & can whip all over the place & if it made contact with a person it could easily cut them in half or kill them, it can also recoil so hard the cable could come through the windscreen but luckily as Rick said he was using a synthetic rope when his snapped & it just dropped straight to the floor. when using steel cable it's best to put something over the line like an old jacket etc so if the cable snapped the weight help to pull the line down to the ground. Recovery no matter how your doing it has a high risk of danger because things can break/sheer. I don't like anyone in between the 2 vehicles even at the sides when I do any recovery just incase something was to let go

Hmmm, ive got a 16.3mm metal cable. I had seen people putting towels and all sorts on the cables, i kinda of figured it was for that reason, i take it this will be a safe option for me then? (Putting something on the cable)

Another good reason to use shackles not bloody hooks :doh
You'll be fine with yout Tirfor though, as it has a shear pin that'll go long before the wire does
