Nice, just watch the rain water doesn't run down the coax and into the car.

Is there much activity on CB in France?
Don't intend to keep it wired up all the time just when we go out for the day, Just listening now I heard a few conversations one in English.,Just thinking? will I need to set it up Its a long time since I had a cb they were illegal back then:augie

looks ok , check swr before using tho , not sure about the laws in france , but cb is legal in the uk.......and licence free ( fm .....and soon usb )....although you will use slightly different frequencies to the old uk cb band in france ..... the old mid band is quite common in Europe tho , but take note .... most euro countries have different cb frequencies / modes .

president jimmy full specs

http://www.rigpix.com/cbfreeband/president_jimmy.htm

as you can see , its a AM ONLY radio

France uses the same frequencies (in 40 channels) as CEPT and the USA. AM, FM and SSB are permitted. The only legal CB radios in France are those which are approved by France Telecom or visiting CEPT-approved radios.
Frequencies (MHz) and modulation description:
max power: 1W AM, 4W SSB, 4W FM

Ok, A lot of that went strait over the heard, . the aerial was on the car befor in the same place but with a different set, will it still need setting up ? And I dont know if you can see it well enough on the pick, but how do you adjust this type of aerial?; John

ok , put quite simply ...... the radio is illegal to use in the uk , the voices you heard may have been on fm,..... and yes it will still need the aerial " setting up " ..ie swr checked before transmitting ..... cant really see the aerial to comment on adjustment ..... sorry for " going over your head " , it wasn't intentional .

Ok so every thing is ok as i only intend to use it here as a trial, if its worth having I may get a better one, So just need to get a swr meter now,Thanks for clearing that up, John

Just a quick one, If I set up the aerial with the SWR meter will I have to do it again if I change the rig ?

In theory, no, but in practice, you probably will, as there may be a difference in the length of the connecting lead from the PCB to the output socket, which will be enough to affect it..

Ideally you would SWR it mid channel ie if 40 channels, then use channel 20, as long as no one is Txing on it lol.

On my Amstrad cb rig, I could adjust the aerial length by slackening a couple of allen screws and shorten or lengthen a few mm at a time.

I forget which way, but it depends what the SWR is doing on other channels helps you then to adjust in the right direction.
I guess there is something on the internet to guide you.

If the SWR is greater than say 5, then I doubt adjusting the aerial length will improve things that much, as the frequency of the radio is not compatible with the frequency range of the aerial, or there is a poor connection, or poor ground plane, or even moisture in the coax cable, or damage to the coax.

Do not transmit for long periods, ie a few seconds, if you have a poor SWR as you can damage the radio transmitter.
