hi all,
Suppose this is a mechlectrical question, but there's no catagory for this! (shocking standards if you ask me  )

Sometimes when im at about 60mph a relay (im assuming its a relay or the little mice peddling the wheels round) starts to chatter v quickly,
seems to be from behind dials but may be down behind the fuses (never tried to look for the culprit at that speed)
i've got the crank sensor disc at mo (don't know if this is the reason) Just wondering if ne1 can shed some light on it as its an irritation rather than a prob at the mo.

Ta Ryan

Could be the speedo cable, you can always disconnect the cable from the gearbox and try it.
just a thought.

if i do 120mph it should be twice as loud?? Yes?? 120mph oh how i jest! 90 will do (on the race track of course i often take the old girl round the nurburgring)

ot but am i the only one who since getting a 4x4 just seem to take driving a little steadier don't seem to need to rush so much since i got it, it'll go when pushed just don't think i can be bothered pushing her, she'll get there in here own time kinda way. (not all the time sometimes she's gota be disiplined!)

I get the same but it starts at around 40MPH, i thought it was a leaf or loose plastic blowing behind the dials.

Let me know if you solve it as this really cheeses me off.

hi giggsy.
could it be the speedo cable chattering in its sleeve.
as regards slowing down your driving speed since owning a 4x4 ,i think its a lot to do with being able to see over the headges. so you enjoy the drive more.
just putting my moderators hat on for a moment please dont use A%%%
ECT to represent letters to hint at words . so could you please edit your post ,in the spirit of n.f.m.o.c. rules.
many thanks iandouglas

Hi Ryan. Would have thought a chattering relay would have shown up pretty quickly with some lousy electrical problem(s).
Have had these noises on other cars and they were usually speedo cables or plastic bits resonating at certain engine or car speeds.
Once it was a dried up holly leaf stuck in a heating duct. Merry Christmas

My speedo cluster chatters, it is the clear perspex on the black cluster body. I thought it was the bezel but I've had that off and put felt around it. Not sure if this is the same noise as you get.

hi your noise could be the 10 mm bolts that hold the dash board to the body . i had the same type of noise at around 60mph and the bolt were loose on the dash board .

ive got the same problem - mine starts at about 65-70 but if i push it up to 80 the noise disappears (and not coz the engines louder or stereos been turned up!!)
