Hi All
My Terrano as been reluctant to start on these cold mornings so I decided to change the glow plugs. I removed the inter-cooler and moved to one side two water pipes that run directly over the top of glow plugs. There is a brass bar ( I think they call it a Buzz Bar) that contacts all the glow plugs it is secured by plastic coated brass nuts with a slot in the top for your screw driver, I managed to break the plastic on one of them and had to get my mole grips out to removed the nut. I then removed the glow plugs using a deep 12ml socket.
I test the glow plugs by putting them in the vice, connecting my battery charger to each one in turn, three of them glowed a dull red, and the fourth one just got warm. I had watched this technique demonstrated on a video on this web site http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=60725I
The cost
I rang three Nissan dealers
Sheffield £25.78 including vat each
Doncaster £35.00 including vat each
Chesterfield £40.00 including vat each
Car parts direct on the web sell Terrano glow plugs for £12.99 plus vat I was tempted to go for these but they are 12volt the ones I removed where 11volt. Would the extra one volt cause any problems?
I decide to buy the glow plugs from my local motor factor 11volt NGK for £23.50 including vat each
Well I put it all back together connecting one wire from the loom to No1 glow plug. I seem to think there was another wire but if there was I can not fined it does anyone now if there should be more than one connecting wire?
Well that is my latest adventure with my Terrano I am sure I will not have to way very long for another
