hey guys,

changed my gearbox oil today, first time I have done it so I am pleased with myself!

Releasing the filler bolts was easy, but I sort of lost control of the flow of oil as it exited the gearbox. Caught most of it in my oil catch tank but the gravel driveway has a new colour...

anyway, I cleaned up the bolts, the magnetic one had a fluff of tiny filings on it, so I am not too fussed about that, then filled the box up using the hose up through the engine bay method. I got 4 litres in that way, but it didn't overflow....

I believe its 3.5 litres capacity, but is it common to get more in this way?

not sure on amounts but you can fill it further if you take the top off the gear stick assembly inside the center console lol

and wheres the bloody pics??????????????????????????

yeah, I removed the centre console, so I could see the gear stick, but from there I didn't have a clue? The gear stick is surrounded by a big rubber casing...how do I remove the gear stick to fill up the gearbox? I fancy putting in the last 1 litre (that would make 5 litres of oil in the gearbox...bad idea?)

if you can stick your finger in the level hole and reach oil then you have enough in it, no point in overfilling it, Rick

ahhh bugger, Rick, I wish I had your intelligence, I didn't even think of doing that!!! Well, I will do it tomorrow!!

When I did mine I put 5 litres in iirc until it flowed from the filler plug, that's how I've always filled gearboxes :sly
I used the correct oil but it made 1st and 2nd a little stiff to engage when cold! If I do it on the new truck I will use the lighter oil :thumb2

hmm, weird, but I think this last litre I have will squeeze in fine. I've used a COmma oil, based on the sites recommendations though I understand 75w 90 is the preferred oil? I've put 80w90 in, gl4 of course, so hopefully it will be fine though I am going to mix in some molyslip as well...just as soon as I work out how to remove the gearstick...

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, molyslip is a friction improver, but your gearbox has slip rings or friction devices so not a good idea, Rick

Oh dear, if this is right this should be made important as I'm sure a few others have added this moly slip stuff :nenau
