i have been asked a few times for advice on wiring microphones to particular cbs , so i thought it would be a good idea to post some information and diagrams , of course when you buy a new cb the mike will be wired to the set , but if you purchase a replacement mike or a second hand cb , it may not be .

heres the link

or if you cant find your radio above ...... try this link , it has far more sets.

Thanks Briggie, the second link had my Amstrad 901, I may dig it out, I know it needs a new aerial, but where is the best place to exit the cable without water getting in? How will I know the radio is still in tune, it has never been adjusted since new in the 1980's ?

Years ago I had a gutter mount and I had the aerial over the drivers door, it had a collar that allowed the aerial to fold back over the car to enable it to get in and out of the garage without having to even get out of the car.:thumb2

With the Mav, there is no easy way I can fit one and allow me to get in and out of the garage with it still on. The door clears the roof by 1-2 " as it is and that is without roof bars.
The car radio aerial ( on the wing) even catches the roof when fully extended.
Any suggestions, do they work on the front or rear bumper?

Rustic

hm.. quite a few questions there , i will try to help where i can ,

by " exiting the radio " i assume you mean where do i feed the coax out of the car ? ..... if so , i put mine through the sun roof , but its a individual thing

as for if your radio is " in tune " ....id guess so , but check the swr with aerial first before attempting to transmit.

a cb aerial will work on the bumper providing it is correctly swr'd , however it is better to mount the aerial as high up on the car as possible, there is also a chance with a bumper mount that the radiated signal may be directional.

perhaps a quick release mount on the roof for your aerial might be a better option ?

hope this helps

we have quite a few radio hams on here who will advise further im sure

Im not 100% sure when cb became legal and FM as I amtoo young But the amstrad may be AM modulation.

Which basicly means it's next to useless for a greelaning cb.

the amstrad 901 is quite a legendary legal fm rig
