Hi all,

This may have been already covered previously, if it has sorry!

The cassette storage box in my 1998 terrano is gathering dust, I no longer own any cassettes. So the question is, can it be replaced with something more useful? If so where can I purchase such item?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Mark

Is that the one between the front seats? if so you can store your CD's if you have any, to small for the 45s or 78s

45's & 78's go in the pockets at the rear of the driver and passenger seats!

The cassette case I'm referring to is the facing you in the centre consol.

I suppose I could put an 8 track there.

If it's the cubby hole in front of the gear sticks you could always pop a CB into the hole, put a vault gauge, turbo preasure gauge or even a small DVD player

My cubby hole will just take the Amstrad 901 that I dug out from the loft yesterday, but I'll have to drill a couple of holes in the bottom for the Aerial and power lead. It separates easily and there is a couple of inches to spare at the back behind it. Just need to put some time into it... I'll have a word with killer pete he has some spare time
Just need a good aerial as my original was a gutter mount. Anyone recommend one..

Not many cars with gutters these days... apart from the Solihull built things...

A lot of us use 6" or 7" magmounts with springer aerials, either genuine or copies, all seem as good as each other. The sringer is almost essential green laning as it won't get broken by overhanging branchs and the mag mount means you don't have to leave it on all the time (i do though) and gives you that ultimate possibility of it being knocked completely off by a really low branch rather than damage the roof as would happen with any other type.

I see in some off the videos that they have been moving there twigs down onto the bonnet, prob will have to do the same,i have a Sirio ML145,excellent aerial!! but doesn't have the spring load at the bottom, just the whip!! Makes a lovely noise when i go into a high rised carpark!!

I say chaps, you seem to be moving off my original topic 8O . It'S A BIT like a Billy Connolly story, after about an hour he returns to the the subject  Or should I gather by this that there is no actual replacement for the cassette holder.

However on the point of CB, I think thats what you are referring to, I never realised that it was still alive and kicking. I remember years ago seing people with it, but can't recall the last time that I did. Hang on now I'm going off subject doh

I was thinking of adapting that cuby hole for a freeview box to connect to the dvd screens in the back but thats another project some day!! i keep all my loose change in there and the kids sweets!!

I think a visit to Halfords just to get a few ideas may be on the cards. The sweetie suggestion is the best so far

I've got my volt meter in there & may pop in a turbo boost meter in time, it'll give the kids something to watch

how easy or difficult is it to fit these meters? I'm warming to the idea

I just made a carboard template of the hole in the cubby hole then trasfeard this to some 19mm mdf. Use a 51/52mm hole saw to make the holes for the gauges. To cover the mdf you could either paint it or cover it with vinyl off an old car seat or door trim from a scrap yard  Lastly drill a hole in the back of the cubby hole for the wires & connect them up 8)

Sweety, thanks for the info, on the basis of this I found this site: http://www.solware.co.uk/customise-car-part-accessories/gauges.shtml

how easy is it to wire in these gauges, without making a complete b*lls up, and then having to spend lots of dosh on rectifying?
I'm not bad on mechanics, having owned Escorsts/Capri's and a Probe, never had much choice but to learn. But electrics and such have always been bit of a grey area.

Thats the jobbies  I wired mine in when I changed my head unit. For the volt meter it needed a perm +, ingn +, earth & the ilumination feed to light it up when you put on your head lights. I took these off the stereo feeds, but HB will prob strike me down for this

Any good suppliers for these meters neil?? sounds good!

I got my volt meter from Motorworld, think it was £20  But most car places will do them eg halfords/ripspeed, demontweeks & prob ebay as well but will have a look on there soon to know for sure

i have a 300w invertor in there as cable is just right to go upto cigar lighter, fits like it was made for it top to bottom, a friction fit, then a little torch to side of it.

cb can fit in rear cubby box or on dashboard which is safer for playing with modes with out looking down!
