Nissan Pathfinder 07

A few weeks ago the rear OS door on my Nissan Pathfinder became impossible to open from the outside. I didn't do anything it, about waiting for the weather to warm up to minimise breakages of plastic clips.

It now won't open from the inside either, any suggestions how I can get the door open to remove the trim and fix it?

I'm not familiar with your model but would guess a linkage failure.
You'll have to try and get a bit of the door trim off from inside the truck.
Have a look at the manual to see how all the gubbins works and good luck

Here's a link to the owners manual from your car :thumbs

You could get someone to press on the door around the lock area, push... push...push... whilst someone tries the door from the inside and/or outside.
Worked on one of my cars once...
Watch you don't dent the car though...:doh

Now sorted.

Finally had to have a look at this, roof rack on and no way of removing it without opening door.

This is my second door locked minor trauma recently

It was possible to remove the trim far enough from the inside with the door shut to reach the mechanism from inside the door, took a while but no major problems other than a few broken trim clips. I could find no means of opening the door and was beginning to get worried that it was going to get expensive.

In the end, I randomly pulled a bowden cable connected to the outside handle and the door opened much to my relief. Further investigation showed that the child lock lever had been knocked on, which is why it would no longer open from the insid, if I had known that I my have been able to insert something between the door and surround and flick it back.

My suggestion to anyone who's rear door stops opening from outside is to tape or jam the child lock lever somehow so it can't be accidentally engaged. If the child lock is in use when the outside handle ceases to function, try and slid the child lock on/of lever with a ruler or something.

The reason why it wasn't opening from the outside was that the fixing on the end of the bowden cable securing the outer to the chassis of the handle had sheared, I was able to do a good bodge to secure it appropriately with cable ties and all works fine now.

The other minor problem I had was with house the front door, I went out and it shut behind me on the latch, it can't be opened easily from outside without the key, unfortunatley a key was in on the inside and I could not get the key in. The same was true of the back door.

I was so fixated with getting something through the letterbox and turning the inside key that it did not occur to me to get something through the letterbox and press the handle down (Door was not actually locked just on the catch), which is what the Locksmith did on his way home, 10 seconds, including assembling the tool. £40 ouch. Not unduly impressed with being hit like that by a local guy, but he did solve the problem. I should however have asked for a receipt.

Good post and well followed up, this could save a bit of time for other members.:thumb2

I have been in the habit of being locked out of the house over the last couple of years usually the wife has a key so I have to wait until she gets home. Finally decided to fit a keybox on the outside wall - sorted for £12.00 !
