Just spent a long weekend helping my son paint his car. Payback I guess for all the welding :D
Any way we decided to try this stuff called Military grade chassis paint a la fleabay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221237626...49&var=520149134102&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Started off in the usual maner with loads of body work . Filling golf ball size dents and making arches up over his wheels. Car is lower than whore's drawers :lol

The arches are mainly steel ofcourse fabricated DIY and then I fettle them.

Much sanding and filling then flatting the whole car later:augie
Starting to mask up too.

This paint we rolled on with little gloss rollers  and it's pretty good to work with too.

detailing to do but very pleased with the stuff. We'll see just how tough it is tomorrow but 1st impressions are good.

Very cheap stuff at about 23 quid for 2.5 lts. Easily enough for this little Polo.
I'm going to do mine in it now and have that satin look :naughty

Looks good so far !

I brush painted a Mk 2 Mini Cooper with Coach Enamel it took a couple of hours to be touch dry but the finish was pretty good with very few brush marks remaining. Used 1000 grit where needed and then polished it up with Brasso. Cover was a tad shallow so ended up doing 4 coates ! Oh the joys of youthful enthusiasm!

It used to get a lot of comments from people who struggled to accept it was a brush finish. To make it more difficult it was three tone with Blue bottom section red roof down to the bottom of the pillars and bright yellow in the middle section. Picture in loft somewhere so can't post it plus its an old photo not digital circa 1978.

It was chip resistant as well.

my first car was a cream austin 1100 dmd789a,at the time i lived in a flat in camberwell london as i had a girl i was seeing there, she would not get on my bikes,650 bsa tuned super rocket and a goldie 500, so had to learn to drive and got the said car.
anyway it was 1972 and decided to do it up and i repaired it on street, got one of those little electric spray guns and sprayed it brilliant white.
pretty good job, well it must have been as i had every tom dick and harry asking me to repair/spray there cars.
i earnt enough in my spare time, was working full time on rolls royce merlin lumps then, to work my way up to a 10cf air kit which i had up on the first floor in my little bedroom with the hose out of the window down to my watertrap/regulater screwed to the front fence.
good job the owner of the house was deaf as when it was running it rattled the wooden floor it was on.i even did a repair on mick macmanuses(old wrestler for those to young) car as his mum lived just down the road from me and he came round every sunday with flowers for his mum.often spoke to me as sunday weather permitting i was out earning.
getting back to the thread, well done looks good and seen a few non shiny cars about, maybe a coming trend and will save a lot of time getting the mirror shine i used to have to produce.

Looks good!

I'll be using similar stuff for the patrol, thinking a light camo green and some digital camo effect with stencils :)

Bang tidy :thumb2

Looks good, needs a big lump in the front :naughty :sly

I like the look of that :thumb2
We use a zinc rich powder primer at work for architectural steel work and it had a very similar finish when fully cured.

Need to find out what rollers are recommended though, the sponge ones I had croaked after 10 minutes

Might be worth asking Steve, he rollered his Terrano,

Something I am still desperate to do :thumb2
