Wondering if anyone can eBay link me (or similar) winch hooks or similar for the other end of my Tirfor, something heavy duty, I have seen people advise against hooks.

Something that will hook or tie round my tow points on terrano.

I take it this is my answer then :naughty

Thanks for chopping the post a little anonymous, I wasn't very clear :augie

Alex,
I hate to be a pain, but I have some reservations about those shackles of yours......can you double check that they have a SWL marked (stamped) into them. If they have not I would be careful about using them. To me they look far too small for the size of the winch and wire rope. I use 3 or 4 ton marked shackles on my tirfor, and they look chunky as well......
In order to fit a hook on the end of your wire that currently has the eye thingybob, you need to go to a wire rope supplier (Cosalt or something similar) to have the eye thing removed, and the hook spliced on with hydraulic press stuff (Talurit splicing),
You really cannot be too careful with these things.......trust me......

No point using a hook, just use a shackle.

The two smaller shackles look rated for 3.25t, the bigger maybe 4? But as John says only use them if they are marked with their rating.

Thanks guys, I will check the rating mark if any. Sorry for posting such noobie questions just trying to make sure i get it right. I haven't winched yet and I'm in no hurry, want to get my head fully around the set up before i go to the next step.

I thought i must have a hook, didn't realise the shackle attaches.
Weight limit will be checked :thumb2

Cheers for being patient :D

No worries Alex, better lots of questions and many answers , than a bad accident....:augie

Yeah quite right :thumb
Better to be safe than sorry but at the same time you've gotta give it a go at some point

I am going to winch myself in a quiet area and under no real stress just to see how it's all manoeuvring and pulling.

Hehe yes that is also true rick :thumb2

I have been extra careful when unspooling the cable ensuring it is not twisted. I heard it is important.

you are quite right Pete he is welcome to join me any time at Slindon or Boxgrove, lots of winching going on at both sites, but not by hand, but would be good place to show how hard it will be to do it by hand, Rick
