As said I seem to have an oil feed problem to my head, this is a cold engine after approx 2 mins running, you can see the oil stalk for the Vac pump between 5th and 6th cam bearings on the left of the shaft, this I would have said is more than enough oil for the job

And after 4 mins, at all times the on board gauge reads about 45psi and revving it takes it to 60, I have had the oil pump off to check the pressure relief valve and it is in perfect condition so I really cannot fathom why this is happening, is it a sign that I have excess oil pressure to the head? has any one else run an RD28 with the cam cover off (with cover mounted vac pump)? I will be fitting a gauge in place of the sender unit shortly to properly test the pressure, Rick

As an add on the orifice in the bottom of that feed stalk is 1.2mm can anyone calculate the pressure needed to squirt that high? Rick

What is the problem here Rick?

Not sure what the problem is here looks like a healthy supply of oil to me ?

Some sohc oil feeds on some engines have restrictors to limit oil feeds as well as catch areas to keep the camshafts well oiled in the head.

The problem is why should it wait 4 mins to squirt that high, surely once the pressure reaches 45 psi (after a few seconds running) then that jet should be hitting the bonnet, not 3.5 mins later, I am relating this possible oil problem to my hydraulic cam followers holding all the valves open, maybe? I do not know, but even after removing the valve and spring from them and shimming them up as solid followers I still have problems, starting from cold is good and normal, but after it has been run even a couple of hours later it spins over like all the injectors have been removed, it does start eventually but not as it should, Rick

Had a go at removing the oil pressure sender today, 17mm spanner was a little loose but 16mm would not go on and just no room to swing a spanner from the top anyway, not sure if access from under will be any better, am loath to resort to grips as do not want to damage it, so no further forward other than have made up an oil damped pressure gauge with check valve to go in the the glow plug hole, so will be doing a pressure test am tomorrow when it is cold when the engine sounds more normal when cranking, my current thinking is the oil hole in the bucket follower is still allowing oil pressure to influence valve clearance, I have a couple of ideas as to how to stop that hole up, more on that later, Rick
