hi guys whilst changing my studs today i had to remove the caliper on the drivers side which undone no problem
(the 2 13mm bolts which hold it to the carrier)

changed the studs over no problem but in my good wisdom i thought id check the calipers and sliders over only too discover that both sliders seemed jammed solid

so i then tried to undo them with no luck soaked them with wd40 for a few hours went back out and they were still locked solid didnt moved either way (clockwise or anti-clockwise)
they also didnt compress ? ?
which is why the brakes are shocking i think !!

so i then thought heat but i cant heat them as the little rubber cover would melt so i thought id give it one more go with the wrench and snap !!

the slider snapped !!

should these slider things compress ?

and shouldnt they be able to be un screwed hence thats what the 17mm nut is for to turn the dam thing ?

its the driver side and im desperate for a replacement carrier as im going away this week with the caravan and im in surrey

is anyone breaking one local to me ?

also are the carriers sided ?

im waiting for a call back from a chap but hes in gloucester

paul

I had the same problem, but i did not snap anything.

The good news is the whole thing will come to bits and you can replace the broken part. The pins that the slider fits onto will come out, you need to keep turning the nut on the other end. Get some heat on it, the only bit you will damage is the small rubber boot, but your going to have to replace them anyway as they are going to rip apart.

Have you any photos of it so i can see where your at.

.

the slider has snapped nearly flush so i may have to drill it out if i can i juat thought if i can get a replacement carrier it would be easier.

where would i get replacement sliders and rubbers from ?

The callipers are handed, BUT you can fit the side exactly the same. It's just the bleed nipple will be at the bottom instaed of the top. So if you have to go down that route, fill the bugger with juice first then assemble. Keeps a lot of air out :sly

.

hi makeitfit i only need the caliper carrier not the caliper
the caliper carriers arent sided are they ?

when i had them both off earlier they looked the same

you dont know anyone that would have one sitting around do you ?

paul

ps i met ian today the guy with the maverick breaking in stroud he said you bought a few bits off him already

:thumbs:thumbs

If it's just the slider you need I could get you one sent out Teusday. I'm off roading till then :D

.

hi makeitfit how difficult do you think it will be too drill the slider as it has snapped off nealry flush and if i drill it out am i likly to damage something

i bet its a complet arse to o drill i can see it now :nenau

Get us a pic up mate I can't work out where the break is :nenau
It will be a pain most like :doh

we really need to see a pic to help you. as we not sure were or how its snapped. If its in the second part of the caliper then HEAT the bugger up and it should tap out.

does this help with part you are after.

thanks for all your input guys got it sorted today went and got another caliper carrier from "4x4anorret" or should i say his mate.

the parts are from the maverick being broken in the for sale section.

just to give you a heads up my original caliper carrier slider wouldnt budge at all even with a welding torch heating it up and i left it soaked overnight in oil

:(:(

put the new carrier on today and i have brakes again.

i know this is an old post but i had the same problem, rubbish brakes blamed it on the rear but when i stripped the front down the sliders were seized. 3 undone (eventually) and 1 snapped flush. took carrier off and started to drill it out then a mate said drill thru carrier from other side and knock it out with a punch. drilled hole and heated carrier with oxy-acetylene and the broken slider knocked out, then run a tap thru hole put in a small bolt to blank it off and it was sorted:thumbs
