Well the decision has been made - I want an X-trail. I have done a search on the forum and not come up with much so what are the things to check for on a 80-100k miles vehicle? Going for the diesel one.

something else? :augie

only kidding, but I know nothing about them, sorry

my dearly beloved had a 51 plate sport dci turbo , very good on fuel economy , .......but ........ lets just say its a good job it was a company car and they paid for repairs

dunno where to start lol , but from memory ......

the cat in the exhaust collapsed ...... cost ...... £900 fitted ( nissan )

tps sensor failure ......new tps sensor and pedal assy ........£450 fitted ( nissan )

was a nice car , 6 speed box , good on fuel economy averaging over 40 mpg on a run , but hers spent more time at nissan than on the road , mileage when the company got rid of it ( for £2000 at auction ) was 147,000

but apprently the diesel versions hold their price well , hers may have been a friday afternoon one lol ., but the company got rid of it quickly

we have the workshop manual on here too :thumb2

Fancied one myself but there seems to be a lot of reports of turbo failures some owners have had multi and expensive failures. Have a route about on Google. Regards. Bri.

My neighbour had one for a while  Turbo was spitting oil down the intercooler .
He had bought it through a dealer and it was back and fore back there for months. In the end he managed to pt ex it to another dealer :lol
Best look for much lower mileage if you must have one

Yeh, heard nothing but hell stories about these, get a rav4 or Honda thingie

WARNING not all xtrails are 4x4, as a work friend bought one and to his amasement it was,nt a 4x4 but only x2 wheel drive, it looks nice though. lol.

the 4x4 ones dont have a lever , they have a button on the dash to select
4wd

I know of several people who have them and love em to bits and not had a minutes problem with em either.

good point, and they seem to be a very popular caravan towing option :thumb2

did i mention how much a respect Suzuki grand vitara's? the 2.0 petrol engined ones are lovely :augie

You takes your chances...

.....many of the problems described in the above posts are ones that you would see in a high mileage smallish diesel are they not?

I run a Rav4 and absolutely love it. It's approaching 150k. I've had some issues - clutch/flywheel and recently needed a new turbo (common issue on these engines - see forums). But the body is solid and it still looks good. Fuel consumption up in the high 40's mpg on a run. I'm taking the view that it's better to stick with a car you know rrather than buying another heap of trouble.

Good luck with whatever you choose

Thanks for all the replies and opinion chaps. I did go and look at a couple of X-trails. Pretty non-plussed really. I like the rear cargo area - nice and flat and large. Thought the interiors a bit naff, but the Sport was more practical to my way of thinking, and both the ones I looked at had oil from the left corner of the intercooler.

Interesting that the Suzuki GV was raised - I am looking at those as well now but the deisel one and 4 door. Also had a look at a Jeep Cherokee ( 2003 so the "Liberty" shape) Sorry to say I liked it. The 2.8 Diesel seems the least thirsty of them.
