A Bt guy is coming to our house on Saturday to see if he can sort the internet, if the problem is at our end, its gonna cost us £99 for callout charges, then another stupid amoynt for a new hub:( :-O so hoping its not at our house. Bt are a bunch of thieving shits and I heavily recommend you do NOT use them, they sell you're details too

we would change but we are tied into a 2 year contract with them. Dad went mental with a useless twat on the phone who can't understand British language even though they are a UK call centre 'suppposingly' and dad is easy to understand even though he's Scottish..... and after about a hour the sod just hung up:rolleyes: BT is a scam to say the least... Anyone else had this Crap service? :nenau

I do hope you have had everything plugged into the test socket so as to eliminate any possibility of any extension wiring causing problems?
If you have then the remainder of it is down to Openreach, in any event make sure the O.R. engineer is offered a warm beverage as he can easily overlook things:augie

OHHH YES!!! never again we had several callouts over a 3 month period issue was never resolved so they agreed to cancel the service free of charge. 2 months later got a nice £352 bill through for cancellation charges.... And guess what that particular call wasnt recorded Arseho*** if you ask me.

Would recommend them to anyone.

Anyway hope it gets sorted but dont get your hopes up :lol

Have you been fiddling with the wires you know you like electrics:naughty
Daddy will be mad

At my old house, I was having all sorts of problems with them, and in the end they sent round an Expert with clever gubbins to try and work out the fault...

After about an hour, he says, that the results do not make sense, the readings he was getting were like they were in the exchange. I took him to the back window and showed him the exchange, which was right at the bottom of the garden. Apparently, I was too close to the exchange for it to work!!! In the end, they had to fit something to slow my service down to make it work!!

The trouble is, it does not really matter who your ISP is, it boils down to who runs the actual phone service to your door, and in most cases that is still BT.

Hi guys, yup, we've checked the sockets and also wiring, its got connection but the broadband light on the hub keeps flashing also the hub keeps making a clicking noise, almost like a relay opening and shutting bizarrely. Also the phones make a loude buzzing sound if you reset the hub, that's why I think its the hub itself that's buggered. As this happend before and we got another hub free. Also the I'D caller on the wireless phones have gone off too

bt is nothing compared to virgin media ........ you are lucky mate

depends on the engineer, I dealt with a couple of whengineer's :doh from open reach before I got a good one. One minute he had his big yellow test phone plugged into the socket, then I didn't see him for 3hrs! :eek:He'd followed the line back on every pole to the exchange. 3miles worth. When he got to the exchange he found some fault, which cured the problem. :clap
This was a saturday morning job. He may have just gone to the cafe.:augie

I'm very close to getting rid of the land line. Why can't I just pay to have broadband and No phone line. Pees me off

Aye, they are not exactly enthusiastic about fixing it quickly...hopefully we'll get a decent guy probably from openreach.

we were with talk talk for many years for phone and orange did the broadband.

I was sold the bt dream, to save few pence and they took over from TT.
BT lost our number, we were on a temporary one for a month so no one could
call us, great as had printed business cards for mrs' childminding.

BT contract came up for renewal, Orange reckoned they could no longer support
free broad band, which dated back to when we, and still do, had 2 mobile contracts
exceeding £35, so said if we took land line from them the BB would remain free, well
fair do, all eggs in one basket. No loss of phone number on transfer.

Now just get bt calling every other week saying come back, plus junk mail, sorry
guys in contract with another, though never say who.....

funny BT were always ringing even when with them, and mail too, seemingly left
hand doesnt know right hand etc.

First of all don't take it out on the engineer when he or she arrives, be friendly and as said offer them a drink and don't forget the biscuit:thumb2 he could quite easily arrange a big bill for you if you upset him or turn a blind eye too. Remember they are human as are the people at the other end of the phone. Remember not everyone that phones them are as wise as you so they have to treat everyone the same.

First job to test, go to your BT master socket. The initial cover actually comes off after undoing the two screws to reveal a second socket. Using this socket should remove all your phone extensions. If the fault is still there then you have proved it's BT but if the fault is gone you've saved yourself £99.

The simple fact is that pretty much all companies are faceless big companies that really don't give a stuff about customers. The staff are the human factor and that's how you get your own way by treating them as human.

Ohh aye, we won't be rude to the engineer as its not his/her fault, dring and food are at the ready :D yes we tried the master socket not a difference:doh

We've had BT for years and living rural means were so far away from the exchange they always say the fault is on the property, we have a "box" outside in the turning circle and all the lines come from there so it's a nightmare when anything goes wrong as the phone line is buried deep in the riverbank. Last time we had a problem they had to dig up the bank to find the fault, but if it's the router then that should be down to BT to exchange, after all it's still their kit.... I agree with you on the call centre issue, can't understand a word they say but all in all they have been pretty good with us, which reminds me to call them and see if I can't scam a better router... he he .... good luck.

We had serious problems with the BT line and broadband, it kept dropping out, infact you knew as the weather got heavy, prior to heavy rain or a thunderstorm that we would loose it. Guaranteed.
BT had me moving the hub to the main socket, testing the lines must be a dozen times.
We had 2 replacement hubs, still the same problem.

We were offered optical broadband, so we signed up, and it has been fine since.

However, when the engineer came he said choose one computer that you want to be on line and I won't leave until it works.
I tried fitting a wireless link to the main desk top, but this was not compatible, the netbook was fine, BUT it was NOT the one I first nominated, so he said if I can't get it to work, then we I will have to run the cable around the house direct.

I said after 2 cups of tea and a few biscuits, I don't want the cable outside, BUT I will do what ever it takes to help run the cable through my garage, through 3 walls to the main computer.
I cleared the way, opening up some of my previous cable routes and after 4 hours he left , leaving a very satisfied customer.

Moral of the story..
Be nice to the engineer as suggested, they don't all agree with the heavy rules from the company, the rules are there to enforce, when they are confronted with agressive, rude and insulting customers.

Many many years ago, we had the old dial phone, hard wired , no sockets then, you had to pay extra for a socket and one of our toddlers dropped it onto the floor and the case cracked, the engineer said what happened, my wife told him...

He said, " You see this little handle under the handset, it often breaks. ( CRUNCH) and you end up dropping the phone, just like this.

When you can't get anywhere, be assertive by all means, don't swear or loose your temper, otherwise you look out of control, and there is no way to reason with a person like that.

Good luck,
best regards,
Rustic

I still find that being quite, sitting in the rocking chair with my Shotgun on my lap gets them to sort any problems out very fast.

we got a new BT hub for nothing:D, i can annoy you all again:augie:lol

Check your BT bill next quarter, the "Free Hub" magically appears on your bill, as ours did...
Then you have to claim it back.:doh
