Its 2.7 tdi . valve looks to have just snapped off for some reason

Ouch in a major way. Not good--I have heard of this happening, but not on these trucks. It looks like the exhaust valve head just snapped off and imbedded itself in the piston. No compression in that cylinder.

A replacement engine is in order. I do not know what one costs there but they are abundant in Poland and not so very expensive.
