Hi All

I have had problems with my mav's brakes. Caliper had sezied anyway went into kwik fit today and couple hundred quid later fixed caliper and new brakes. I thought that was job done but kwik fit say I need new master cylinder because I have master cylinder creeping they quoted £450 said master cylinder was ford only part and big job. The problem is when I pump the brakes after a few presses brake light comes on stop pressing pedal light goes off. Could it be anything else other than master cylinder or are they right and I need new master cylinder.

Thanks

Carl

my garage unseized my caliper for half an hours labour and a bit of grease....

Kwik Fit? Kwik Stitch more like....

My brakes work fine in stopping me. I don't have to pump it to stop but when I do pump the brakes the light comes on. Is the vacuum cheaper than the master cylinder. The brakes work fine but I would like to get it fixed just so that I don't get stuck one day

This might sound like a daft question but is the engine running when you pump the brakes ?
the stored vacuum in the servo will only last for 4 or 5 pumps with the engine off, you will still have brakes but much harder and that light will be on,

Hi

The engine is running it is after about four or five pumps the light flickers on stays on a bit but if i rev engine it goes out quicker. What should I do to fix it or should i leave it alone.

You obviously have a vacuum leak or lack of vacuum, check all the vacuum pipes to the servo (did quick fit remove the master cylinder? May be seal between master cylinder and servo leaking)
If all appear ok, locate your vacuum pump, should be attached to the back of the alternator on yours, take it apart and clean it up turning the vanes around on reassembly.

I had this exact problem when I replaced the calipers on mine. It is the float switch in the brake fluid reservoir sticking. Remove the lid, clean the float switch and contacts.
