Brake shoes

howdy chaps.

soon my tax will expire, and I will be sorning the maverick for probably just a month. During this time, I want to have the tyres done and brake shoes. I want to do the brake shoes myself, does anyone have a decent guide? I have a emchanics handbook, but it can be a bit complicated, I was thinking a haynes guide or something because surly I should be able to do it, I am fairly capable...

also, is it possible for a mere human to do the tyres? if not, I will get them done first...

also, is there such a device that I can plug into my mav to read fault codes? my Engine Managment light pops up randomly sometimes (as does my works vectra-so doesnt bother me) just want to know why its flashing up, perhaps i can fix? I saw something in Halfrauds...On my Mazda mx6, i just use a paper clip and an led-then compare the flashing lights to a guide!

If you want a code reader have a look on ebay.Theyve got hundreds and theyre well cheap.

I got an OMBD II lead for my audi for £15, and the software off the net (PM me for the url) and it did the bizz, just a pain setting up the software on the laptop.

well worth it, as even my local garage charges for a quick hook up.

Re the brakes.

In 4x4 Magazine (March-09 edition) there was a 3 page spread on how to do a TerranoII brake overhaul. Wish I had a scanner to copy it and post it on here for you - I recon it'll be the same for a Maverick?.
